KENTE PORTAGE FESTIVAL’89 July 21st, 22nd, & 23rd

Come Celebrate

Celebrate History on the oldest road in continuous use in On- tario, an ancient Indian port- age over which Champlain, Lasalle, missionaries, voya- geurs, traders, explorers and settlers passed. A nexus of travel for centuries.

Celebrate the canoe, the craft which helped build Canada, de- signed by the natives of readily available materials, it has served generations of travell- ers. Brigades of Voyageurs in the great canoes will rendez- vous here from every point of the compass to demonstrate, race and revel. All sizes of canoe will join the fun.

Celebrate boats and ships of all sorts, a flotilla sailing on the Bay of Quinte to the portage. Bring your own craft and join the parade.

Celebrate Loyalist settlers, whose houses still line the port- age, celebrate as pioneers did with music, singing, dancing, story telling and feasting. Celebrate artists and artisans, who will show their Discover a Heritage Road just 1.5 miles long from water to water , from the Bay of Quinte to Wellers Bay on Lake Ontario. The county line of Northumber- land and Prince Edward Coun- ties the road celebrates both counties.

Celebrate soldiers, past and present. Encampments and parades of historical regiments feast the eye, and entertain with mock battles.

Celebrate with children, for the very special activities for chil- dren, fun and games as well as participation in historic activ- ity and many craft projects, are programmed.

Celebrate native tribes which met here, portaged, and lived here. Their culture and crafts will be here

Discover friendly joyous people in historical dress, dress up yourself if you wish and join in the revelry. Attend a hoedown, a pow-wow, a canoe trip, a wagon ride, a feast. Listen to bands, singers and story tellers. Cheer a canoe team or join one. Have a picnic, have a ball!

There are many nearby boat dockings. The Murray canal is just to the north, Trenton and the Trent waterway five min- utes away. Discover Quinte, a haven of beauty and history. Canadian Forces Base Trenton and the City of Belleville to the east a few miles, Brighton to the west will add interest to your tour.
