COOEY came to Cobourg in 1929

W.H. Cooey and Machinery Manufacturing Company bought the old Felt Factory of Cobourg to be used as their new plant in 1929. The plant was to be used for the manufacturing of "fire arms and sports equipment."

The Cobourg Sentinel- Star, August 1, 1929, termed the transaction "the feature stroke of business executed by the town council." W.S. Edwards acting for the Toronto Company outlined the terms of the purchase: "the sum of $100 on the signing of the contract for sale to be completed before Oc- tober, 1929; a sum of $400 due and payable on Jan. 1, 1930, and the balance of $4,500 in nine successive annual installments of $500 each."

The company had the option of paying the full balance at any time in return for the complete deed of land. Cooey was planning to go into production that fall, moving all machinery down from Toronto.

NEW OLIN CORP. PROJECT

You've read about the cushion which inflates on impact to protect the driver in an auto collision.

Olin Corp., the parent company of Cobourg’s Winchester Canada plant.

At the instant of collision severe enough to cause injury, a force of six times gravity lasting foe eight one-thousandths of a second, strong plastic bags inflate automatically to cushion the driver and passengers before they can hit the steering column, dashboard or windshield. Then the bags deflate.
