COBOURG PUBLIC LIBRARY

A Borrower’s Guide

The Cobourg Public Library’s Mission is “to give all those who require and seek a forum for knowledge, information and educational recreation an opportunity to do so.”

Joining

Any resident of Cobourg and Hamilton Township is able to get a Library card. Any member of the Port Hope Public Library, with a valid library card, may also obtain a Cobourg Library card. You must show identification with your name and current address. (If you do not live in Cobourg or Hamilton Township or Port Hope you may purchase a membership)

Borrowing

You must show your library card to borrow materials.

Borrowing is STOPPED when charges on your card amount to $10.00 or greater.

Lost or Stolen Cards

Report lost or stolen cards immediately.

Anything signed out on your card is your responsibility.

Replacement cards cost $2.00.

Card Expiry

Library cards expire annually. All charges must be cleared at this time. You will be asked to verify your current address at this time.

Loan Periods

3 weeks: Books, Magazines, Talking Books, Juvenile Cassettes

1 week: Videos

Please ask about special vacation loans

Renewing

Most items may be renewed twice if not on hold and as long as the membership card has not expired and is in good standing.

Renewals are only done during library hours.

Items can be renewed in person or over the phone at 905 372-9271.

Returning

To avoid fines, return all library materials on time. Items can be returned to the Access Desk when the Library is open. Materials may also be returned, 24 hours a day, through the book and audiovisual return drops on the parking lot side of the building. If the slots are full, do not leave your items. You are responsible for the safe return of library materials.

Holds

You may place items on hold if they are not on the shelf. Please contact staff at the Access Desk, either by phone at 905 372-9271, or in person, to place a hold for you.

Charges

Late fees for all material (except videos) .25 per day

Late fees for videos $1.00 per day.

Non-refundable Video Damage Insurance .50 per video

Replacement Cards: $2.00

Non-resident membership fee $30.00 per year

Some children’s programs have an associated fee.

Please not that the video damage insurance and children’s programs fees will be waived, upon request, if they present a financial hardship.

Meeting Rooms Rentals

The Library has meeting room space, with kitchen facilities, available for rental to large and small groups.

For information regarding all options for booking meeting space, please contact the meeting room co-ordinator at 905 372-9271 x6130.
