Library receives painting by Dr. Tripp

The Cobourg Public Library was presented another fine new art acquisition, an oil painting by Dr. John Tripp, on behalf of the Cobourg Art Club, last Wednesday afternoon.

Entitled “Third Street”, the painting depicts coal cars at the Cobourg siding with dark tones and blue undertones. It was judged as prizewinning exhibit in the Club’s 1965 show.

Mrs. Joyce Falconer and Mrs. J.H. Tripp officially presented the painting to Library Board chairman Col. Gordon King with an explanation of its history and techniques. The painting has been placed over the main reception desk at the library.

Library Obtains Painting by Local Artist

COBOURG (ENS) – The Cobourg Public Library was the recipient this week of a gift by the Cobourg Art Club in the form of a painting by local artist Dr. John Tripp.

Dr. Tripp, treasurer of the club, was unable to attend the presentation due to illness, but his wife and club president Mrs. J. Falconer made the presentation to the library board.

Dr. Tripp has been a resident of Cobourg since he completed his dental training in 1947 and was one of the first members of the club.

Mrs. Falconer said, “He is considered the best of our group, a real master of color and we felt he deserved recognition. Therefore the club purchased this painting to be displayed in a prominent place and decided on the library.”

The Cobourg Art Club has a membership of about 20.
