- Description
- An early photograph of a group of stores on the north side of King Street, opposite Victoria Hall. In the foreground is Field and Brother. Also included in the block is George Stephens Cabinetmaking business and the Cobourg Star office.
- Notes
- Supposedly the business was established by John Field in 1832. His sons J.C. and Corelli C. took over in 1857 and then J.P. and Fred took over in 1898. In the later years his other sons Harry and Cyrus joined the firm and continued the dry goods store. Harry was also in charge of Field Hardware Co. which had been established a number of years earlier by John Hayden. Oversize.
