- Description
- Interior of stand-pipe in 1912 when the ice did not leave with the water but instead its weight caused the stand-pipe to topple over.
- Notes
- The waterworks were established in the 1890's. The water stand-pipe, located on the south-east corner of D'Arcy and King, is 16 feet in diameter and 116 feet high. The pipe was pumped full and then used gravity flow to empty. It is pumped again as pressure reaches a certain low. The pipe is open at the top and ice forms on it during winter.
