- Notes
- Originally known as the Maple Grove this home was built by William Graveley in 1854. It was adjacent to Colonel Chambliss home and was bought in 1893 by Signor Albertini, whose wife Madame Albertini was the sister-in-law of Colonel Cornell by a previous marriage and the daughter of Doctor Edward Scovel of Detroit. She renamed it Interlaken. A talented vocalist, Mme. Albertini sang professionally and was believed to have sung at the composer Wagner's funeral at his request. She later married for a second time to Signor Albertini whom she met in Washington. Albertini was with the Cuban Consul. Around 1890 they began to summer in Cobourg and later became the proprietors of the Arlington Hotel. In 1922 the house was sold to Mr. Herman Griffin whose wife, a daughter of Generald Card and sister to Mrs. George Howe, remodelled it. In the late 1960s it was demolished to make way for the Roma Apartments.
