- Typewritten information found in the Colborne Heritage Site catalogue: "This is the end piece of a packing box from the Branscombe Canning Company. The business was started around 1927 by Milton and Myrtle Branscombe in the kitchen of their home on Telephone Rd. north of Little Lake with a small hand-operated processor. As the business grew, Mr. and Mrs. Branscombe moved to a larger home on Highway 2, east of Fiddick Road. The house is now referred to as the Loyalist Inn (c.1812). A new factory was built on the south-west side of the C.P.R. tracks on Union Road in 1930. A siding on the tracks enabled a platform to be built on the north side of the factory with a ramp to load product onto a train car. Each box held two dozen cans of tomatoes. The warehouse for storing extra cases was on the north-west corner of Division Street South in Colborne. The building was rented from a Mr. MacKenzie and held up to 50,000 cases. Mr. Branscombe sold the company to Canadian Canners around 1933. Information courtesy of their son, Mr. Earl Branscombe."
