HISTORICAL OR ASSOCIATIVE VALUE: The Shiloh Church is situated in Cramahe Township, Concession 6, Part of Lot 16. It was built in 1863 on land donated by Robert Dunnett. The land was part of Mr. Dunnett's farm lands. It was originally a Wesleyan-Methodist Church in the beginning and in 1925, it became a United Church. It was well attended in the early days by the original settlers of Shiloh namely William Mutton, William Philp, Robert Dunnett and Henry Wilce and their families, all of whom were involved in the building of the church. Some of the descendents of these original families still live in the neighbourhood. The church congregation was active until May 1965 when the "Hilton Charge", to which the church belonged, was declared ended at a Cobourg Presbytery meeting. At that same meeting, permission was granted for Shiloh Church to be maintained as a Memorial chapel. There is one service a year. There is a Board of Trustees and a Memorial Committee to assist in the care of the church A book called "Ours to Remember" by Mary Anne Mutton Down, a granddaughter of the early William Mutton, has many interesting stories of the Shiloh neighbourhood and the early days of the Shiloh Church and its congregation. RECOMMENDATION: The Shiloh United Memorial Church was designated by the LACAC committee of Cramahe Township in 1988, under By Law 88-41.
