THE COLBORNE EXPRESS, COLBORNE, ONT., MARCH 29, 1945 ALLIED ROCKET BARRAGE ON WESTERN FRONT These pictures, taken in Belgium, show something oi the rocket weapon now in use by c£nadlan British armies on the western front. At top left, Sgt. H. J. Green of Port Arthur Ont., is holding one cf the rocket projectiles and at top right, Capt. E. V, Burnett of Durham, Ont, an[Lieut. L. _W..Lewis of Toronto look over one of the projectors or "guns" its 32 barrels loaded with the death-dealmg rockets. Lower picture shows a barrage being fired in final firing trials. Canadian artillerymen led by Lt-Col. W. E. Harris, of Sarnia, Ont., now district representative of the Department ol Veterans Affairs at London, Ont., had a hand in developing the rocket barrage to its present Potency where a blanket of rockets laid down on enemy positions can completley demoralise the defenders, ine barrage i« laid down by a group of rocket projectors. In each group there are 12 projectors or guns each having 32 barrels. This array gives i of fire comparable to that of 280 artillery pieces firing tillery shell, and a barrage can be fired by 200 n.^.. -- ......... .........------, - equivalent fire power from medium artillery. It is stressed that rocket barrages do not supersede artillery for firing on specific targets since artillery fire can be more accurate. For saturating enemy-held ground with high explosive, however, the rocket barrage has already proved itself a devastating weapon._ NAZI NABBED Rich prize to fall to Maj.-Gen. High J. Gaffey's rampaging 4th Armored Division of the Third Army in its drive north of Coblenz was Lt.-Gen. Edwin Graf von Rothkirch und Trach, above, commander of the German 53rd Corps, and his whole staff. HIS COUP FAILS Col. Jose Eleuterio Pedraza, above, former Cuban army chief, was arrested with 30 other former military and police officers, following assassination of Dr. Eugenio Llanillo, prominent political figure and close friend of former President . Fulgencio Batista. Colonel Pedraza had been living in Mexico. BEAUTIFUL BUT DUMB COLLABORATOR Invading Allied soldiers discovered this store dummy and appropriately draped it with a swastika flag; captured in the drive on Trier, Germany. Meanwhile, an enterprising lad with an eye to the future, is about to remove a pair of what he hopes will be nylons--for the girl back home. -_ ROMAN DEMONSTRATION IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A CHIMPANZEE Recovering from a recent attack of pneumonia, Babo, 165-pound chimpanzee at Toledo Zoo, is nursed back to health by attendant Ed Strassburg. Wrapped in warm blankets, Babo has his pulse taken daily and seemingly reflects confidence in his "doctor."__ QUITE A GUY--IN HIS TIME Hey, spot the britches! And long hair, too. That's about the average remark our boys make on seeing this statue in the town of Moers, Germany, of Frederick I of Prussia, who was quite well known as a militarist in his time, too. _ WILLIAM'S SERVICE COMPANY ADVISORY COUNSELLORS ■ subscribers This Company is giving a financial which we believe is recond to none.
