Page Four THE COLBoRNE EXPRESS, THURSDAY, APRIL 26th, 1945 CLUB GIRLS AND BOYS The term "club" sounds a bit brutal but it is in general use to designa a group co-operating together for common cause. In Northumberland County this year, all young people between the ages of 12 and 20 will have an opportunity to work together on a project of farm and home interest. A calf club will be conducted ir co-operation with the Campbellford Agricultural Society; another sponsored by the Wooler Agricultural Society and a third in connection with Port Hope Agricultural Society. All that necessary is for the girl or boy have a calf to care for and a desire to learn of the knowing, growing, and showing. The achievement day will be held at each of the above three centres. A swine club is planned in conjunction with the Warkworth Fair and if the contestant has not a suitable pair of gilts, purebred one will be purchased for them by Agricultural Representative Ralph Banbury. A potato club will be conducted for the second year in connection with the Brighton Fair. The Cobourg Kiwanis are sponsoring a poultry club in co-operation with the Department of Agriculture and will plan an achievement day in their town. Each contestant is supplied with 50 chicks and must return the value in roasting roosters next fall. Two garden clubs for girls are shaping up; one for West Northumberland with a centre at Grafton, and. the other at Wooler. Time makes it possible for those assisting in this work to visit young people who should participate and, consequently, they and their parents are urged to contact the Agricultural Office at Brighton and point out what group they would like to work with. The projects not only develop an interest in farm life but give the young people a good general education and considerable profit. A pleasant feature is the competing with other counties in a provincial contest for the various projects each fall. The Eighth Victory Loan -Honour Shield will be Awarded to the County District Which Achieves Highest Percentage of the Alloted Objective In the Seventh Victory Loan Com-paign last fall, the Village of Colborne achieved the highest percentage of its Victory Loan objective. Colborne actually rolled up 185% of the objective allotted to the municipality by the National War Finance Committee. This was a splendid accomplishment by the people of Colborne-- particularly because the figure achieved was one of the highest in all Ontario. In the Eighth Victory Loan campaign, a shield carrying the emblem of the Eighth Victory Loan will be awarded to the District in Northumberland which tops its allotted objective by the highest percentage. As all of the objectives for the fourteen districts are set on a fair comparative basis, any one district has an equal chance of winning the much coveted shield. In other words, it will be awarded to the district in which the people give outstanding support to the Victory Loan campaign. In each County in Canada, the various districts will set out to their shield--to achieve the very real honour of being the leading commun ity in the Eighth Victory Loan campaign. The Eighth Victory Loan Shield for the County of Northumberland now on view at Headquarters in < bourg. This is the shield that will be awarded to the leading community at the conclusion of this campaign. FINE RECORD OF VICTORY BONDS United Church, Colborne Rev. Geo. D. Campbell ........ Holders See Bonds are Up on Price Published market price of the various Victors Loan issues reveal that practically every issue has appreciated in value. The holders of these bonds have discovered that be; receiving 3% (which is double bank interest) their bonds have proven to be a good investment. Practically every issue has appreciated in value. Here are the prices of all the Victory Loan issues as recorded in a recent edition of the Financial Post: 1st Victory Loan 3% due 1951 105. 2nd Victory Loan 3% due 1954 103.% 3rd Victory Loan 3% due 1956 102.Vs 4th Victory Loan 3% due 1957 101.Vs 5th Victory Loan 3% due 1959 100.% 6th Victory Loan 3% due 1960 100. As an example, a subscriber to a First Victory Loan Bond paid 100.00 for his bond which he now finds is worth 105.00. On a $1000.00 bond he has an appreciation of $50.00, besides the interest which he has received, regularly, every six months. Having in mind the security of a Victory Bond, from the investment angle, Canadians are certainly being well advised when urged to INVEST IN THE BEST when they are asked to buy Victory Bonds. i continuing to play its part in helping to win the war by designing simple styles which will save on materials and labour. Fully Registered Bonds--The only way to get a fully registered bond (that is registered as to both principal and interest) is to get a $500.00 bond. Now lots of people have $50.00 and $100.00 bonds of earlier issues, and if they want a fully registered bond, they can take the small pieces, group them together and get a larger FULLY REGISTERED BOND.
