Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith, Mrs. I. Smith are visiting friends at Niagara Falls this week. Mrs. Floyd Williams has moved to her home in the country from Colborne. Mrs. James Deviney spent last Sunday in Cobourg with Mrs. Ouden. Mrs. Ouden spent a few days at her farm here last week. Miss Doreen Fulford has returned from a visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Lee, Shiloh, and aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lane, Castleton. Mr. Clifford Mann has again procured the position of drawing the high schol pupils to Castleton School. Mr. Douglas and Miss Marian Deviney atended the Junior Farmers' picnic at Presqu'ile. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Ainsworth having sold their farm to Mr. Duclos, of Prince Edward, have moved to Peterborough. We are sorry to report two cases of scarlet fever have broken out in this community. We wish them speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Findley accoru-panied Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Waite to Toronto where they spent the week visiting friends and relatives. Mrs. A. T. Waite spent Sunday with Mrs. A. Larry and daughter. Mrs. Pilford, of Peterborough, spent a few days with Mrs. A. Lary, Shelter Valley Road. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Lorns Fulford last week were Mr. and Mrs. M. Taylor, of Hamilton; Mrs. J. W. Andrus, Rochester; Mrs. L. M Lowe, of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. C. Trotman, Colborne; Mrs. C. Lee, Shiloh. Miss Leona Findley is spending a few days with her brother and family at Warkworth. Mr. Dan Archer preached at Vernonville Church On Sunday. He took for his text, "Blessed Are the Peace Makers." It seems wonderful that one of our own school children should now be sending out the messages from the pulpit. Miss Dorothy Mann was guest of Miss Ruthie Deviney on Sunday, lt being the anniversary of her birthday. Mr. Elgie Turk and sister, Miss Jean Turk, spent the weekend with friends at Trenton. RADAR TO IMPROVE AIR LINE SERVICE Winnipeg, Man., Sept. 11---Trans-Canada Air Lines' rate of flight fulfillment will be close to 100 percent compared with the present rate of 94.8 which will equal or exceed other forms of transportation as the result of experiments which are now being conducted by the company at its operational headquarters through the use of radar and other electronic devices, W. F. English, Vice-President of the Air Line, announced today. The experiments are being conducted in conjunction with the R.C.A.F. and the National Research Council, Ottawa. Mr. English said, "While Trans-Canada Air Lines at the present time are using devices providing the utmost safety in flying, the application of radar and associated developments which will result from radar, will lift practically all limitations of visibility and adverse flying conditions and enable us to increase greatly our schedule dependability." and Mrs. S. Bennett, of Toronto, were Sunday guests of Mrs. Mable Wil- The ladies of Vernonville United Church held their Missionary meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Leeming. There was quite a large number present. The subject was, "Africa and Our Early Missionaries There." Among other names, Dr. Livingston and Mr. Stanley were most wonderful men of God and did a wonderful work. There was also a letter read asking for help to rebuild the churches in England, and the splendid collection was turned over for that purpose. September 11th, 1945 Anniversary Services were held at Sharon Church on Sunday, with Rev. G. D. Campbell, of Colborne, in charge of both services. Rev. Gordon Adams perached at Colborne. Our High School students started school at Colborne on Tuesday last, namely, Ruby Peddlesden, in her third year; Margaret Cochrane, Reta Hoare, Kathleen Stimers and George McDonald, all in their first year. Public School also opened at Sharon, with Mrs. Claire Reddick as teacher. Eldred Walker, R.C.A.F., Trenton, and Mrs. Walker, Toronto, visited Mr. and Mrs. Ted Walker and Mr. j and Mrs. Lyle Chatten over the week' end. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Isaac and family, Warkworth, spent Sunday with Mrs. Edward Hinman. Mr. Ross Walker, Toronto, spent a few days this week at his home here. Miss Reta Hoare spent the week end with her grandmtoher, Mrs. Will McDonald, Salem. Threshers are again making the rounds in Edville. Tomato picking is also well under way now. Mrs. Bud Walters, Belleville, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne'McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. George Sprung, Toronto, were also weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. McDonald.
