MORGANSTON February 22nd, 1944 A Memorial Service for the late Sergeant-Observer Clarence A. Massey, will be held in the United Church Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Miss Myrtle Hardy spent last week at Toronto, attending the Kiwanas' Music Festival. Congratulations to Mr. Borden Carr and Miss Parker of Dartford, who were married on Saturday. The funeral of the late Mrs. Inglis; rister of Mr. B. Bray, was held at the Church on Tuesday. Mrs. Kemp, who has been taking care of Mrs. Inglis, at the home of her son, at Trenton, for several weeks, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Goodfellow, Codrington, received the sad news that their son, Donald, with the R.C.A.F., in England, is missing. The Pine Grove Branch of Warkworth Red Cross met on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Reynolds. On Saturday evening, a house belonging to Mr. H. Partridge, a mile north, on the County Road, was burned. It was occupied by Mrs. I Ellis and six children. Mr. Ellis is overseas and a baby is in the Hospital j for Sick Children. The fire is said to have been caused by the children lighting a lamp which set a curtain j on fire. EDUCATOR Appointed producer of educational broadcasts in the Maritimes, Douglas B. Lusty left the announce staff of CBC's Toronto studios lecently to take up his new post in Halifax. Before entering radio, Mr. Lusty was a teacher and supervisor of music in Ontario Public Schools. All who attended the School dance Friday night, reported a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Oran Day and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Black. Mr. Arthur Johnson, Oshawa, spent Sunday at his home here. Mr. Lloyd McMurray spent the vekend with his family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest May. On Sunday, February 27th, Rei Mr. O'Brqien will preach his farewell sermon. He is leaving for Smiths Falls, where he will have charge-of another circuit. Sorry to report Miss Mae Mitchell quite ill of pneumonia. Miss Laura Naish, Peterboro, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Naish. Mrs. Truman Millar has returned from Belleville Hospital, where she spent last week having X-rays. She is being cared for at the home of Mrs. James Millar. Pte. Edward Bush is home from Niagara-on-the-Lake for two weeks furlough. The many friends of Mrs. Wesley Darke will be pleased to learn she is improving greatly in health. Little Joe McMurray is sick of the measles. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clarke and family spent Sunday with her mother. Mrs. F. Somerville. Mr. and Mrs. Henry May spent, Sunday at the home of his father, Mr. Cecil May, who is under the doctor's care. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfrid Hawkney and family spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. W. Gillespie. SALEM February 22nd, 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bellamy, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bellamy, Joan and Jack, spent Sunday last with relatives at Cherry Valley. Mrs. R. J. Armstrong spent Sunday last at Trenton. The burial of the late Miss Annie Hinman took place in the Salem Cemetery on Sunday last. The late Miss Hinman was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith spent Sunday at Trenton, visiting Miss Grace Smith, who is attending Business School there. We hope you1 will not forget the euchre at the Salem schoolhouse this Friday. Plan to attend and help the *und for smokes for our boys. Mr. Matthew McDonald is spend-, ing a few days with his daughter. Mrs. Montgomery. _____ The drive for funds for the Re'd' Cross will get under way very shortly. A meeting of the canvassers for this district was held at the home of Mr Clayton Peacock, on Monday last. It is to be hoped everyone will give generously, as the need is urgent, and we owe so much to those who are offering their lives for us. Just o-day I received a letter from one of our own Salem boys, who writes from Italy : "We are in sight of the enemy lines and at night the machine guns seem to be firing right beside us. There were some big guns in the yard and they would jar the tiles off the roof every time they fired, but we got used to it after the first night cr two. Our Red Cross donations will show just how much we appreciate cur peaceful nights here. EDVILLE February 22nd, 1941 Mr. Edward Farrow has arrived home, after spending the past week with his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Macklin, Cobourg. Mr. Andrew Stimers, Cobourg, is ill at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stimers. The newly formed Women's Institute held a very successful euchre party and dance at Hilton schoolhouse on Friday evening last week. Cards were played until about eleven o'clock, after which lunch was served and then dancing was enjoyed. Gen-! teleman's high score was won by Mr. 1 Mason, and ladies' high by Mrs. Lyle | Chatten. Tickets were sold on a j cake, the lucky ticket being held ] by Mrs. Lyle Chatten. Miss Annie Hinman The death of Miss Annie Hinman, I on Friday, February 18th, 1944, caused sorrow in this and surrounding communities. Although blind from childhood, she served as organist of Sharon Sunday School faithfully forever fifty years. No bad weather or roads could ever keep Miss Hinman from her post of duty. She devoted Christian and a consistent , Church member all her long life of 82 j The funeral was held at Sharon , United Church on Sunday last. Pall- j bearers were Lorne McDonald, John I Cochrane, Alf. Peddlesden, James I Cochrane, Cecil Gummer, and Ted . Walker. Interment at Salem Cem j etery. Messrs. Raymond and Lloyd Chapman spent the weekend at Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. A. Herrington, Earl and Lyle, Hilton, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman. Miss Frances Honey spent the week end at Belleville. Pte. Leslie Dunbar, R.C.A.S.C., of Kingston, spent the wekend with Mrs. Roy Packard, and also visited Mr and Mrs. Archie Samons. Miss Evely Mutton, Hilton, was a weekend guest of her sister, Mrs. Douglas Mutton. Service at Eden Church was cancelled last Sunday so that friends could attend the funeral of Miss Annie Hinman, who passed away on Friday, February 18th, at the home of Mrs. J. J. Mutton. /Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Chapman and Richard, Master Harold Peters and Mr. Howard Chapman were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Maybee, Brighton. Miss Marion Mutton, Madoc, wai home for the weekend. Mrs. Roy Packard is on the sick list, suffering of an attack of flu. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Samons visited Mr. Thomas Samons, Shelter Valley, on Sunday. Sgt. Jack Mutton, R.C.A.F., Alymer, «nd Miss Rena Mutton, Shiloh, visited Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mutton and Mr. Garnet Mutton, on Saturday. SHILOH February 22nd, 1944 Church service here next Sunday will be in the morning at 11.00. Miss Evelyn Mutton spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. Douglas Mutton, Dundonald. Cpl. Jack Mutton, of Aylmer, spent the weekend at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mutton were Sunday visitors of relatives at Campbellford. Rev. H. Treffry was Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Darke. Mr. and Mrs. John McCracken at-+ended the funeral of Miss Annie Hinman, at Sharon Church, Sunday afternoon. Last week we reported Mr. and Mrs. Robejit Darke celebrated their ixtieth wedding anniversary. This should have read sixteenth wedding anniversary.
