COLBORNE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Colborne Women's Institute its regular monthly meeting in the town hall, Colborne. on Tuesday. Aipri' 12th. 1938, with a good attendance. The President, Mrs. Cook opened tne meeting with the usual exercises. The secretary read many letters of thanks received from shut-ins and sick people who had been remembered during the month. A letter was read offering safety pledges to be placed on autos. They could be had for the sending to the Department for them and given to memibers wfco could use them, so it was decided to send for them. This being the yearly business meeting and the roll call being "pay your fees and join agaii about 20 ladies joined for another year. The yearly report is: There were 12 regular meet held durng the year, with an average attendance of 19. There were three papers given by members and addresses by four guest speakers. We also had an address by our District President, Mrs. F. Denyes. There were two demonstrations held, with prizes for each. Wie gave Christmas stockings to the children of Institute memibers and a donation to Society for Crippued Children; also held a Tag Day for Blind and canvassed the town for donations. We sold tickets and took charge of the illustrated lecture in aid of the Union Cemetery fund. We purchased and planted a numiber of shrubs for the town park. We had a picnic jn the summer and an oyster supper and programme in January. Several memibers held euchre parties to secure funds for sunshine work. There were 5 quilts made and sold by members. We sent a local leader to a training school for "Care of Clothing," and have received the lessons for same. Two delegates went to district annual. We visited the Lakeview institute for their November meeing. Have given either fruit or flowers to all sick and shut-Ins, in hospital and community. After the business for 1937 was finished. Miss Shelia McManus drew the ticket for the quilt. The lucky number was 46. held by Mrs. W. E. Otto. The retiring President, Mrs. C. Cook was then presented with an electric tabble lamp; Mrs. Cordon Metcalf reading the address and Mrs. R. J. Armstrong making the presentation. Mrs. Cook replied in a few well chosen words.
