HIS BACKACHE WAS UNBEARABLE Kruschen Brought Him Relief from Pain This man of 31 was prematurely aged by backache, when he should have been enjoying the best years of bis life. Here he tells how Kruschen helped to restore him to health, after months of pain:-- "I was in hospital for ten weeks, owing to kidney trouble. When I was discharged I felt like an old man, although I am only 31. If I stooped to do anything it was agony to straighten up again. .Several people advised me to try Kruschen Salts. I tried them and found they gave me relief from pain and I 'elt better in every way. I cycle 28 miles a day to and from work, and shall keep up the daily dose of Kruschen because I can now do the journey to and from work and not feel any the worse for it."--S. V.C. When the internal organs cease to do their work iropo.lv, impurities begiu to accumulate in the system, and cause troublesome symptoms. Kruschen Salts help to stimulate the Jiver and excretory organs to healthy, regular activity, and thus assist them (to rid the systen of harmful impurities. Alberta's 'Black Gold' The Louisville Courier Journal 'writes:-- The Canadian Province of .Alberta has been heretofore chiefly rotable for Medicine Hat, entrepot icf co'd waves fiom the Mackenzie jorridor, and a "social credit" system, which lacks credit and "velocity dollars.' minus initial impetus; but •it possesses hidden riches which may .turn adventurers from the gold field jto stak'ng out oil claims, according to a report to the American Institute .if Mining Engineers relate the discovery of beds of semi-solid oil underlying a territory as large as Kentucky in Northeastern Alberta along the Athabaska River. The deposit is estimated at four times the world's supply of liquid crude petroleum. It must be obtained by shaft mining, but experiment has demonstrated the possibility of separating it from the sand and converting it to commercial uses. Apparently the operation is simpler and cheaper than extracting oil from shale. The story is not preposterous. Kentucky rock asphalt probably is of similar origin, remnants of an old oil field impiegnated in some places with silica sand, a ready mixed bituminous road surface. This is quarried from cliffs of the substance in Kentucky. Alberta's wealth may represent a less advanced stage of change in the constituency of deposit. THE COl BORNE EXPRESS, COLBORNE, TIJRSDAY> MARCH 18th> 1937_ Gardening Bv GORDON L. SMITH (ARTICLE 4.) When purchasing supplies, authorities emphasize importance of obtaining fresh nursery stock and from a reliable Canadian source. Roots and stems of good nursery stock are moist and pliable, and in the case of shrubs and vines, the upper growth will show evidence of plenty of green, live buds. They are stored and usually sold from cool, - darkened quarters. Before planting it is well to trim back the upper growth somewhat to offset any shearing off of the roots, and it is not advisable to allow too much bloominn, of the plants the first year. EARLY PLANTING Most nursery stock, which term includes perennial plants, rose bushes, shrubbery, vines and fruit and ornamental trees, should be planted just as soon as the soil is fit tov work. In order to avoid disappointment in securing special varieties, orders should be placed early, (ipon receipt, if it is impossible to plant, the stock should be covered with damp earth or placed in some cool, moist plaee until moved to permanent quarters outside. FLOWERS FOR BOUQUETS Experienced gardeners advise growing a portion of suitable an- nual flowers the vegetabli ting garden when straight rows among tr in a special cut-abundance of Some well designed beds of mixed annuals are spoiled if too many flowers are picked and, then again, there are certain things like sweet peas, for instance, that have little attractive foliage hat beautiful blooms. These might ts well be grown behind the regular beds. REALLY FRESH VEGETABLES The rime spent in raising a vegetable garden is easily justified. Some grow supplies to help out with the family budget. Others think it's fun, and watch every green sprout that peeps out of the ground of a morning early in Spring. Some garden for the exercise it gives them. Growing exhibition specimens is another reason. There is nothing, however, that compares with the zest of the gardener wno grows his vegetables because he wants the real thing for his table. Crisp, fresh lettuce and radishes, tender corn, fully ripened tomatoes may be had only by the one whs grows them, and can walk out into the garden an hour before dinner-time and pull or pick what the next meal will comprise. Acquisition of adjoining ground is said to be preliminary to an enlarged plan of development for Ymir Yankee Girl. Ontario mining interests now developing the old St. Eugene mine are reported as well satisfied with their efforts to revive this famous lead producer of early years. Alberta appears to have a crude oil producer on the plains, with the announcement of success for Plains Petroleums' drilling test thirty miles east of Lethbridge. Turner Valley reported further success with the bringing in of the Westside Well. Last reports on the Sunshine Well, now nearing completion, southwest of Lethbridge, are favourable. The New Augarita property adjoining has obtained favourable results diamond drilling. The Virita property lies further east. This whole south zone la expected to receive intensive development. In the Kirkland Lake Camp, Federal Kirkland's diamond drilling campaign is only nicely started. A drill is being to the north of the Sylvanite border. The "hot spot" of new mining activity is still the Larder Lake Camp twenty miles east of Kirkland Lake. At least a dozen new mining enterprises have received substantial financing and will be activt'y operating In this field by early spring. Arjon Is a new incorporation immediately adjoining Kerr Addison on the west. John Rogers, well-known mining engineer, is prominentl} identified. The Armistice Company, adjoining Arjon on the west, has a drill being set up ready for drilling. Barber Larder has a crew at work, with camp under construction. Adjoining Kerr Addison on the east is ^hesterville Mines. Unconfi. led reports from the north are to the effect that this Company has obtained a big width of ore in the first drill hole.
