Potatoes and the Irish are inevitably j associated, and now the Cavelier, of | the Canadian National Steamships, brought 1,000 cases of Jamaica pota-1 to Halifax on St. Patrick's Day. This is part of a shipment of 10,000 cases and there will be regular shipments every sailing from now until the end of June, the brokers who are handling the shipment, announce. The potatoes are grown from Nova Scotia seed, and are shipped in Canadian boxes. It was believed until Qtly that potatoes would not grow well in the tropics. But the Jamaica experts, some of whom are Canadians, have overcome difficulties, and the tubers are reported to be a fine big white variety. The right combination is believed to be Canadian seed and Jamaica soil. The Canadian National ships will handle the potatoes, about 1,000 crates being brought in every sailing. INSURANCE 8. E. R.
