The exhibits occupied a large section of the mezzaine floor of the King Edward Hotel. Most of the space was used by various publishers who had brought samples of their best and most recent books for inspection. The booths containing these books are most interesting in arrangement and content. The many visitors must have appreciated the welcome which was extended to them. It was made easy and enjoyable for them to enter a booth and look at any book which attracted their attention. One large room was devoted wholly to Canadiana, Books by Canadian authors were placed on tables around the room. On one wall was* a collection of portraits of our Canadian writers. On a side wall were hung the original paintings for the illustrations of a recent book. In one corner could be seen the interesting little illustinaions of historical incidents, that had been worked in wool. Placed at advantageous points in the Canadian room were several glass topped show cases. These contained manuscripts, copies of first editions, and old photographs and documents that are of great interest in., the history of Canadian literature Among these exhibits ware to be seen original copies of poems by Sir Charles G-. D. Roberts. Ethel wn Wtetherald and others of our poets; the little, old, battered book bound in stout brown leather, that was the second book published in Canada; and a pirated edition of "Low Tide at Grand Pre" of which only a dozen copies are tant. One case is devoted entirely to copies of Marshall Saunders' "Beautiful Joe," the book being shown, printed in a number of foreign languages. A feature of this case was the large book containing the story printed in Braille. Of interest to Canadians also a small exhibit tucked in beside of the publishers' booths. It consisted of half a dozen books placed small table, and the interest lay la the binding. Dr. Lome Pierce bound the volumes by hand and the result Is most beautiful. The covers are of leather and the end papers just inside the covers of moire silk. Two or three of the books are bound in natural soft calf leather. These are presentation copies that anyone would treiasure for their beauty. Two or three other sections of the Book Pair deserve notice, although it must be brief. There was an exhibit to show how a book is printed and bound; and examples of the first galley proofs, the page proofs, " assembling of the pages, and the covering of the book were all display-j ed. Just as one entered the Book Faty one noticed a case containing a number of rich and beautiful volumes. These were the prayer books bound in white and dark red vellum which were used "by King George and Queen Elizabeth during the Coronation cere-' monies last May; and there was, tool the Great Bible which was presput^o to the King. The value of liis < xhilyft is attested by the fact that a. uniform-f ed guard- was unobtrusively but un-J n.istakably on duty in the vicinity of the case. The Public Library had most interesting exhibit in its micro-} rhotograpbie camera and projectors', but a description of it must be left for some other time. Even so rapid review of the Book Pair as this cou not omit mention of the corner given up to children's books, where the walls were decorated with large drawings to illustrate Gulliver's Travels. These drawings are the work of the Children's Class at the Art Gallery. One comtes away from the Book Pair with the conviction that visits would be required to do the exhibition justice. One's mind is filled with a jumble of books, people-, books, pictures and more books. The predominant impression that one away is that the thought and life of mankind is crystallized in books and that Canada is sharing in the valuable work of making our human records. Hearty cngratulations to Jack Clarey who, on appeal, has been registered as an apprentice by the College of Pharmacy. We are glad to see Donald Kennedy in his place again,, but are sorry that Irene Taylor is still absent.
