Smith has returned to his home in Cobourg, after spending several weeks with Mr. J. Cowie. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Finley and family of Wieklow visited Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Warner on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Swain and son Donald of Salem visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Coffey, on Friday. The regular meeting of the Mission Band of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. George Peebles on Saturday afternoon. The Y. P. S. of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church held their regular meeting in the basement of the Church on Monday evening, January 14th, the meeting was in the hands of Mrs. J. Cuthbert^ Missionery Convener. MORGANSTON January 15th, 1935 Herman and Ross Nelson spent the weekend with friends here. A shower was> held at Mr. Reycraft's on Tuesday night, in honour of his son and bride (nee Miss Brown) of Warkworth. Doreen Jaiynes, who was operated or; for appendicitis, at Cobourg General Hospital, is spending a few weeks with her aunt, Toronto. The Church was filled on Thursday night, to hear the Jubilee Singers, and all were delighted with the ent-tertainmenf. Proceeds nearly $70. Miss Grace Grills has returned from spending a week with her sister Josephine, nurse at.Guelph Hospital, who has been very ill of pneumonia. Miss Ruth Chapman, Toronto, visited her relatives here for a few days last week. Mr. Bert Mutton, Bowmanville, is visiting this week at his uncle's, Lewis Mutton. Mrs. Ernest Mutton has returned from a week's visit with her mother at Shannonville. ^ Mr. Norris Dingman, Monganston, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dingman last week. Mr. ^.nd Mrs. Bradley and Mrsi. Archie Chapman are among the ones suffering with severe colds. Our High School girls, Misses Mae Mutton andl Mary Broomfield are boarding in town for the winter. Mrs. Lena Miller, Colborne, has been spending a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Gooderich. Mr. Geo. Walker visited Port Hope on Thursday, in conection with his new job as overseer on Highway No. 2. Miss Myrtle Goodrich is spending a few days with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Goodrich, Col-Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dingman and Miss Margaret Dingman were guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. Taylor, Norham, on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mutton attended the concert in the United Church, Colborne, on Friday evening, last week. Mr. Fred Irwin, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. Graham and Mr. and Mrs. Morton, spent Wednesday in Peterboro. Dundonald can boast the election of two of their neighbours to Municipal honours, Gordon Honey, Deputy Reev Knd Archie Chapman, Councillor. A large number from this vicinity attended the Annual Oyster Supper, given by the Ladies' Orange Lodge, Little Lake, on Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McDonald, Colborne, have been visiting at the nomes of Mr. and Mrs. S. Puffer, W. Samls and Mr. and Mrs. J. Graham, the few days. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Samons spent Wednesday with their mother, Mrs. T. Samons, Wieklow, and found her somewhat improved, having been ill of pneumonia. Friends will be glad to her that Mrs. Argyle Rutherford, who has been receiving treatment in Toronto General Hospital for several weeks Is reported to be doing well. Our neighbour, Mr. Geo. Mrs. Clarence Goodrich was hostess to the Ladles' Aid of Eden United Church last Wednesday. The meeting was an all day one. In the morning two quilts were soon on the frames, and fourteen women with nimble fingers had them finished before evening, when the business part of the meeting was transacted. The nice comfortable quilts, ten dollars worth of new goods, together with supplies from other parts of the circuit, were taken charge of by Rev. and Mrs. Armstrong (who are active in all departments of the Church) and immediately shipped to destitute people in Saskatchewan, to friends- of Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong on circuits there, where they formerly lived. It affords our Pastor and wife great satisfaction to be ahle to send help to these dear friends in the West. DUNDONALD Y. P. L. The Young People's League met in Dundonald hall, January 10th, 1935. with an atendance of 42. The meeting opened by singing the nymm, "My 'aith Looks: up to Thee," and repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison. Scrip-reading by Mrs. Roy Chapman, followed by a short address and pray-eT by Rev. A. Armstrong. Minutes of last meetng were read and adopted. It was suggested by the Pastor, and approved by alii that we go as a League this Tuesday evening, January 15th, to hear Gipsy Smith, famous evangelist, now conducting meetings in Colborne United Church. Rev. Armstrong gave some suggestions on changing the programme of our League for another year. A committee of the four officers and the Pastor was appointed to receive any ruggestions pertaining to this, and bring it before the League at next meeting, of which Mr. John Wright is in charge. "Standing at the Portal," was sung and music by Mr. Wright, and two well-acted monologues by Mr. Geo. Gummer entertained the League. The following ofifcers were elected: President--Miss Marjorie Mutton (re-elected). Vice-Pres,--iMisis Marion Nelson. (re-elected). CASTLETON January 15th, 1935 Mr. and Mrs. Ross Whitney, Brighton, visited Mrs. C. Whitney on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Ellis were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lane, on Sunday. Mr. Ray Bowen, Fenella, spent Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J: C. Bowen. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Vosbourg and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Rex Haynes. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Carr of Toronto were calling on friends and relatives here on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Harnden and family of Grafton visited Mr. and Mrs. Hervie Welton on Sunday. A social evening was spent at Black's School, on Friday. Cards and dancing were enjoyed, and a good number attended. L. O. L. 554 are holding a social evening, lucky draw and dance, in the Orange Hall, Castleton, January 24th, 1935. Ingles Orchestra. The annual meeting of the Castleton Public Library will be held in the school house on Monday, January 21, 1935, at 8 p.m. All members welcome. Miss Marion Quinn Iras completed her post graduate course for Reg. N., at the East General Hospital, Toronto. Miss Quinn deserves great credit for her faithful work during her term. YOUNG PEOPLE'S MEETING • The Young People's meeting was held in the Faith Mission Hall, on Friday night. Miss Thelma May was in charge of the program, which consisted of: Duet--'Misses Verna Bound and • Thelma May. Reading--Dora Pomeroy. Violin Solo--Clifford Purdy. Message--Mrs. Bennett. Lome Pinch. The next meeting will be held at the Mission Hall on Friday, January 18th, 1935. All the young people are invited. CASTLETON W. I. On Thursday January 10th, 1935, the Castleton Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. S. M. Purdy. Forty-four were present. The letters of appreciation of the work of the institute were very encouragin: Institute Workers. The meeting decided to stage a play in the near future. The convener, Mrs. Theo. J took charge of the programme. Solo--Mrs.. Isaac. Reading-^Miss E. Wolfraim. Paper--"What I Gain by Attending the Institute," Mrs, H. Welton. Current Events--Mrs. Theo. Jones, |, Contest--"Names of Apples," won hy Mrs. C. McKague. '- The meeting closed by singing the National Anthem. Ah excellent lunch was served by Mrs. Theo. Jones, Mrs. P. A. Thompson, Miss E. Wolfraim, Mrs. H. Welton, Mrs. A. Poole, and Mrs, A. Quinn. LADIES' AID A gathering of the Western Group of the Ladies Aid, under the conveners Mrs. R. McGregor and Mrs. Geo. Bliakely, held a social evening at Mrs. Mary Arkils' on Tuesday evening. A pleasant evening was spent. Master Bert Bowen sang a solo, "Little Bird in a Cherry Tree," in a pleasine: way. Bowen, Louis May, Isabel May, and Mrs. Nichols. The meeting of the Western Group will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bowen next month. The Eastern Group of the Ladies' Aid. under conveners Mrs. A. Haw-kin and Mrs. Lou Palmateer, will be held at Mrs. Arthur Hawkin's home Thursday evening. Secretary^Mrs. Earl Irwin (Eileen Dudley). Treasurer--Mr. W. Thomas, in place of Donald Broomfield (resigned). Mr. and Mrs. Earl Irwin were then invited to come to the front, when an address expressing gratitude to the young couple for services in the past, and best wishes for their future was read by Miss Marjorie Mut-, President, and the gift of the League--a silver bread-tray was presented by Miss Marion Nelson, Vice-President. Mr. Irwin thanked the League in a; brief speech, when all the young friends sang lustily, "For they are jolly good fellows." The social hour which followed was very much enjoyed and the refreshments were abundant an& delicious, planned and served under the able management of Mrs. M. C. Broomfield, Mrs. Lewis Mutton and Mrs. John Trottman. This pleasant and interesting meeting of the Y. P. L. was closed by singing "Blest Be the Tie That Binds," and the Benediction. Reduction of one-half per cent, interest on loans made by the Ontario Agricultural Board has been announced by Premier Hepburn.
