As the youthful orators unfolded their respective platform one could not help but express a certain n ure of astonishment at the high esteem with which each candidate regarded his oponent. One speaker even went so far as to decline make use of the word "opponent," substituting in its stead the mor friendly term' of "fellow candidate. To one who has been enured to the calumny, insinuations, invec wheh make Provincial and Dominion elections take on the aspect of a sonal feud, the quiet unobtrusive ner in which these young men went about the business of expounding their respective platforms was a : lation and at the same time a delight, The whole-hearted denunciation of war which characterized all three c tions was another notahle feati which would seem to repudiate that oft-repeated claim that youth takes but a passing interest in international affairs and politics. This trend of opinion regarding war -- that i should be outlawed, is an anachron: in this day and age, a hearkening-hack to the barbarisms of the Mi " Ages, and a repudiation of Christian ideals -- is inescapably noticeable wherever Youth Congresses of Young People's Societies meet. Youth question and youth will be answered before their country once more begin; to hurl her human sacrifices at thi bloody altar of Mars. Idealism, energy and generosity-- the three predominant virtues o youth--were all exemplified. In ad dition each speaker expressed a healthy hatred for war and Atheism, unshakeable belief in Christianity, and a, fervent desire to propoxate its doctrines and to educate youth in principles and a desire to remedy isting social maladjustments. Win or lose, one cannot help but be vinced that these three young firmly believe that "the men who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than these who try to do nothing and succeed." These are the principal thoughts which are conjured up. in our mind as, we harken to the discourses of these embryo politicians, while they may lack the facile tongue of a Cicero, Laurier, or an Edmund Burke, or Webster of another day, have the; ideals to look forward to as they cor template the vista of life, standing as they are on its very threshold, On Thursday, November 28th, 1935, the three candidates who are contesting the constituency of Northumberland East in the coming elections for the Fifteenth Older Boys' Parliament of Ontario delivered their addresses to sjl interested, audience at the School The Reverend Mr. Rickard of Colborne first gave an explanation of the campaign, after which the three can- Colborne High Grade Shoe Repairers Enjoy old shoe comfort by having them repaired here by practical and experienced workmen. 'fhe first speaker, Lome Arkles of Colborne, who is a graduate of C. H. jfe., was introduced by Elson Grant; the second speaker, Donald Chapman of Brighton, was introduced by Gerald Wright of the same town; the third speaker, Donald Johnson of Stockdale, was introduced by Simmons of the same town. The three orators acquitted themselves in a manner worthy of commendaton. Remarks by Mr. Mc-Cutcheon and Rev. P. W. A. Roberts completed the meeting. Owing to the arrival of winter weather physical training class now being conducted inside the School building. Marion Joice and Elsie Carter of second form are absent owing to illness. Where mild flavoured honeys were used to replace sugar, the flavour of the finished product was much improved. It must be remembered, however, that approximately one-fifth of the honey is water, therefore, the liquid portion of the recipe must be reduced by one-fifth.. The sweetening power of honey is at least equal to that of an equal quantity of sugar. ' world to
