GRIFFIS PROVINCIAL BANQUET TO PREMIER FERGUSON Conservatives of Ontario to Honor Victor of Last Campaign A "Victory Dinner" will be tendered to Hon. G. Howard Ferguson, Premier of Ontario, by the Liberal-Conservative Association of Ontario, at the King Edward Hotel, Toronto, on April 22nd, 1927, it was decided at a meeting of the executive of the Provincial body yesterday. The annual meeting of the Association will be held the same day, when the chief matter to be discussed will the Conservative National Convention, which is to be held this year. In view of the important part he played in the last campaign, an invitation to speak at the banquet is also being tendered to Attorney-General Hon. W. H. Price, K.C. The speech-making will be concluded by 9.30 p.m., and from 10 to 1 a.m. will be held the first Provincial dance of its kind. The will of the late W. J. Crossen of Cobourg, who died in Toronto few weeks ago, provides for a legacy of $5,000 to Trinity United Church, Cobourg, given in honor of his father, the late James Crossen, who was a member and prominent supporter of the former Division Street Methodist Church. The late Mr. Crossen made another popular bequest, by leaving $5,000 to the Cobourg General Hospital. He had formerly subscribed $5,000 to the building fund of the Hospital. These benefactions are much appreciated in Cobourg, Mr. Crossen' home town. "Do not pay any heed to the rumors of secession. There is no such word in the vocabulary of the Maritime Provinces. While it is true we have been long suffering, not from the direct suits of Confederation, but rather from neglect in carrying out the terms of the union, yet the little provinces by the Atlantic seabord will be found second to none in their fealty to Canada and their loyalty to Great Britain." In these words, Hon. P. J. Veniot, postmaster-general in the Federal Government and former Premier of New Brunswick, summed up the situation on the Maritime Provinces in an address before the 70th annual meeting of the Ottawa Board of Trade. Hon. Mr. Veniot gave a lengthy resume of the facts leading up the Maritime's entry info Confederation because, he said, "there seems to be an attempt being made In certain sections of Canada, especially in industrial centres, to lead the people astray on the Maritime Provinces' situation, "The Rexall Store" FARMERS' ACCOUNT BOOK Frequent reference has been made in recent issues of the farm press to the desirability of making an inventory or taking stock of farm supplies, implements, live stock, etc., during the month of March. The suggestion is a good one and the Dominion Experimental Farms System has published an extremely simple Farmers' Ac-it Book in which are several pages especially designed to assist the farmer In making such an inventory. To "keep accounts" in this book requires no special knawledge of ac-mting, simply the ability to write and add, and a record of transactions can often be made in less than one hour a week. A few plain directions 3 to making entries and taking in-sntories, a table of silo capacity, and gesittation table are given on the iside cover pages of the book. There are pages for the entries of 'ceipts and expenditures (both of hioh may be seen at a glance on the mie page) relative to cattle, horses, sheep, swine, poultry, crops and labour and ample space for miscellaneous items. There is a page on which to record amounts owed to and owed by the farm and forms on which may be made inventories of land, buildings, livestock, feed, supplier and machinery. There is also a page where the year's business may be summarized, with a few directions to assist in filling out intelligently at the end of the year. Further, there is a table on which to enter the acreage and yield oi crops and one on which to keep c live stock service record. The book may be obtained from the Publications Branch of the Department of Agriculture, Ottawa, at a nominal charge of ten cents. No postage need be placed on letters of application. F. C. TWO CIVIL CASES ENTERED It is expected that there will be two civil cases at the spring sittings of the Supreme Court of Ontario that open at Cobourg on Feb. 21st, before Hon. Mr. Justice Lennox. One will be the case of Mr. J. F. McArthur against Dr. W. G. Robertson for $25,000 damages for slander, and the other will be that of Stillman vs. Diamond, a Campbellford case in which action is entered for $25,000 for the death of Mrs. Stillman by her At the annual meeting of the Percy Municipal Telephone System held at Warkworth, Jos. Greenly, Frank Men-eilley and Herbert Oliver were elected commissioners for 1927. William H. Nelson and Alfred O. Cliffe were appointed auditors. At an after meeting of the commissioners Mr. Meneilley was chosen secretary and Mr. Greenly was appointed chairman. Although the attendance was not large there was a lengthy and interesting debate over the financial standing of the system and especially over the matter of delayed payment of message accounts, there being several hundreds of dollars outstanding for a number of years.
