Samons, East Colborne, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry McDonald. Mr. Patterson and Miss Patterson, Port Hope, lately returned from California, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mutton, last week. Mr. Claude Goodrich, Miss Mabel Goodrich, ana Miss Alice Graham were recent guests in the home of t. R. Mann, Baltimore. The Misses Emma Wright and Effie Goodrich are spending a week at the Girls' Camp, under the supervision of the United Church. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lowry, Oshawa, and Miss Leona Inglis of Ellicottville, N. Y., have been guests at "The Cedars." The many friends of Mrs. Kenneth Mutton heard with surprise and regret of her serious illness, which necessitated her immediate removal to Cobourg Hospital on Saturday evening. On the following morning, Mrs, Mutton underwent operations for removal of appendix and gall bladder, and though suffering severely since, it, reported to be doing well. NORHAM Fishing is the order of the day. Quite a number from here .attended the walk in Cobourg. •. and Mrs. George Palmateer spent the weekend in Toronto. We are glad to see Mr. and Mrs. Sam Piatt able to be around again. IMdss Eva Piatt has returned Toronto, after spending some time with her parents. " *. CASTLETON Mr. Albert Wolfraim of Rochester spent a few days with his parents Mr. Claude Arkles returned to Detroit, accompanied by his mother and sister, Velma. Mrs. Newson of Sask. is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. Pomeroy, and otheer friends. ,Mr. and Mrs. Austin of Toronto visited her parents, Mr. and Mts. Jos. Taylor, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin of Pontiac, Mich., visited at the home of Mr. Mrs. David Franklin. iMr. and Mrs. John Wolfraim children, Toronto, are sepnding their holidays at the home of his mother. Mrs. Welton, Mrs. D. Dirfgwell, Miss G. Newman, Miss Bowditch, Misses M. and Beatrice Purdy and Master S. L. 'urdy went on the recent excursion 5 Rochester. We extend congratulations to Miss Elva Bowen and Miss Clara Nelson, who were successful at the Normal School examinations. Miss Bowen been engaged to teach what is known i the Bowen School. You are especially vited to all these services. Word was received in our village ■. Monday of the sudden death of Mr. Floyd Summerville, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Summerviille. He has been working in Detroit, Mich., and reported that while he was walk-on the street on Saturday, July 16th, 1927, a large electric wire was broken and fell upon him, killing him instantly. The annual Sunday School and Community Picnic for Castleton and neighborhood will be held at Cobourg Park, on Wednesday, Angust 3rd, 1927. trucks have been secured to take those who have no way of locomotion. You are invited to come and enjoy a good day together. Remember the date, August 3rd. Our local teacher, Mr. George Clarke to be congratulated on the success of his entrance pubils. Every pupil passed. This is surely a credit to our teacher and our school. It is also rumored that Mr. Clarke is going to teach first form High School work coming year. This will be a boon to our community. ft is to be hoped this will be the first step tow-continuation school in our village. Mr. Herman Ellis of this village died in the General Hospital, Toronto, oh Wednesday, July 13th. 1927, at the early age of 27 years! He had been with flu, pneumonia and though hope was held out for his" recovery his death was not unexpected. He was a barber by trade, having had a shop in our village for some time! Of late years has worked at his trade in Oshawa and Toronto. He was a genial, kind hearted boy, and liked by everyone. He was very clean in his habits and very straightforward and honest in business. He was well trained and T-6^a^his last days were brightened by his luckle "hope of eternal life. The funeral •~" service was held in the United Church, Castleton, on Thursday, July 14th, Conducted by Rev. J. Dawe, Warkworth, and Rev. J. E. Beckel, Castleton.
