"The Royal York" is the name chosen by President Beatty for the new Canadian Pacific hotel to ba erected at Toronto. It associates the new hotel with the early history of that city. Canadian Pacific Railway engineers, now busy with their preliminary survey of the projected railway to Chieoutimi and the Lake; St. John district, are at present studying the question of a terminus site. An aviation field available to commercial flying is to be prepared at Lethbridge, Alberta. The new field, which will be wide enough to allow ten planes to lie abreast, will also be used for aerial mail service. A~~large party of professional men will leave for a tour of the west over Canadian Pacific lines, on the third annual tour conducted under the auspices of the University of Montreal. The party will spend about two weeks in the Rockies. The second regular journey to Canada of the Canadian Pacific steamship "Empress of Australia," will be distinguished by the presence on board of that ship of the Prince of Wales and Premier Stanley Baldwin, of Great Britain. Col. J. S. Dennis, chief commissioner of the Department of Colonization and Development, Canadian Pacific Railway, predicts a much larger immigration movement to Canada this year than last. He explained that the reported congestion of farm workers in the western towns was transient and not likely What is said to be the first instance of Canadian-made machinery being shipped out of Canada into the States -- manufactured in Canada to American order -- is that of nine large wood pulp grinders, of an output of 100 tons of pulp a day, now ready at the plant of the Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co. for consignment to the St. Regis Co., Watertown, New York. Excellent progress is being made with the branch-line programme projected by the Canadian Pacific Railway for the three Prairie Provinces this season, according to D. C. Coleman, vice-president in charge of western lines. The work of construction, he said, is progressing rapidly and every effort is being made to have the new lines in operation by the time the fall crop movement begins. > Keeping pace with the rising tide of land settlement the company expects to open the line from Lloydminster to Clan Donald on July 15. This branch is of particular interest as it serves the colony of Hebrideans located in the Clan Donald district. These settlers are doing remarkably and have forty per cent, of th< land broken. #1* Madame Jane Sion, champion of European women swimmers, arrived in Canada about the middle of May on the Canadian Pacific, steamer "Montnairn" from AnH>-erp. She will take part in various swimming marathons in Montreal and other o-cntre? in both Canada and the United States, including events at the Toronto Exhibition. The total catch of seafish on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts during the month of March showed an increase of nearly 3,000,000 pounds over the catch for the sam? month last year. The catch amounted to 21,083,800 pounds, valued at $1,224,-796. according to a report of the Department of Marine and Fisheries. The increase was due to the increased catch of herring on the Pa-Two thousand poultrymen from the United States will attend the forthcoming World's Poultry Congress, to be held at Ottawa July 27 to August 4. The delegates will be headed by the Hon. W. M. Jardine, Secretary of Agriculture, officially representing the Government. He will be accompanied by assistant secretary R. W. Dunlop. Some 25 States are participating. • - That the prospects for British settlers coming to New Brunswick were good; that, in fact, arrangements had already been made for bringing a substantial number of British families to this province, was asserted by J. A. Murray, provincial superintendent of Colonization and Industry, who has l-eturned from England where he was acting in the interests of the Government. He has received many enquiries as to the settlement prospects in New Brunswick. That Calgary district has again taken its place in the front rank as a producer of horses in the Dominion was pointed out by G. H. Hutton, President of the Calgary Rotary Club, who declared that 57 carloads of horses had been shipped east from Calgary in three weeks, recently. Indicating the growth of the industry in the district he referred to the large number of entries received for this year's Horse Show, totalling more than 800, as compared witM 600 last year.
