Will be Guests of Ontario Department of Agriculture--Special Competition to Decide Who Shall Go. Ten fortunate young farmers from this county will spend three days in Toronto at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair this coming November as the guests of the Ontario Department of Agriculture. According to the Government's plan, which has just been announced in its final form, the boys will he provided, free of charge, with railway fare from the home station to Toornto and return, with sleeper, berth and meals on the train for those from a distance of 200 miles or more, and any further transportation involved in the tour of the stock yards, abbatoirs, factories and other commercial concerns and public institutions which has been planned as part of the programme during their visit to the Fair. They will also be free of any expense for lodging ac-coniimodation for four nights, or for their meals while in Toronto. It is the sort of thing that most boys dream about and seldom realize, and in this case the Department of Agriculture is playing the part of the fairy god-It is felt that a visit to the Royal Winter Fair, which has in its show ring the finest livestock, poultry and -horses that the stables and herds of nine Provinces and any States can offer, will be an education in progressive agriculture. The boys will be able to see for themselves what the master breeders of the country have accomplished with their animals and they will have to make comparisons between fruit, grains, and dairy products from different parts of the Dominion. Normal country boys have a keen interest in all live things, and the foxes, rabbits, pet stock and dog exhibits will show them the commercial possibilities of these specialties on Canadian farms. They will also have the thrill of seeing the finest amateur horsemen and women on the continent taking the jumps in the Royal Horse Show under the eyes of Lord Willingdon, the Governor-General, and many other visitors prominent in Canadian public life. The boys are to be selected by means of a special "Royal" junior farmer judging competition to be held during October. Conditions governing these competitions (high mark boys to be selected) are as follows:. . Contestants shall judge five rings of live stock and five classes of crop products, such as grain, small seeds, potatoes, roots, fruit and vegetables. Special crops may be included where production is general over the county. The competition shall be open to all farmers and farmers' sons living on the farm, between the ages of 16 and 23 on October 1, 1927 (must not have reached twenty-third birthday) and. who have not previously represented the county as a member of a stock judging team at the Royal Winter Fair, or are not graduates of an Agri; cultural College or Agricultural Sc*fWf Prizes shall be awarded on aggifa-gate scores only, 50 per cent will fee allowed for placing, and 50 per cent for oral reasons on eacfy class. When computing aggregate scores, live stock and crop products shall have a ratio of 2 to 1. The posible score, therefore, will be live stock 500, crop products 250.
