During the rain and snow flurry Saturday evening, when visibility was vcor for auto drivers, four cars were more or less damaged in a mixup on the Provincial Highway near Salem The electric wiring in an Ottawa car went bad, causing the lights to go out and the car to stall on the pavement. Mr. Harry Bellamy driving his car was unable to see the stalled car until quite close and while he immediately tried to pull to one side, struck the other car and went into the ditch, his car turning on its side. Prettv soon a large Studebaker came along and boosted the stalled car along about thirty feet. Then while Poole & Onyon's service crane was getting Mr. Bellamy's car out of the ditch, Mr. Pinkie came along and lost a fender when he struck the service car. Fortunately no person was hurt in tho mixup. ISAAC LATHROPE, BOWMANVILLE (From Bowmanville Statesman) An aged and highly respected resident of Bowmanville passed to the reward of a life long and faithfully lived, on Sunday, October 16th, 1927, in the person of Isaac Lathrope. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lathrope and was born in 1839 near Castleton in the County of Northumberland where he spent all his life save the last seven years since he moved with his son to this town. His occupation was farming to which he devoted his energies most industriously until failing strength prevented. Hiis wife who was Elizabeth Nicholson passed away about eleven years ago. To them were born a daughter and a son, the former passing away when about thirteen years of age. Since the death of his wife he has resided with his son Henry and family. Mr. Lathrope was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and for many years an official in the church at Castleton. Since coming to this town he has lived quietly being a very dear companion to his granddaughter, Miss Carrie Lathrope, and being fond of reading spent many an hour getting the good things thus provided and also enjoying a chat with friends and neighbors who made his acquaintance. The funeral service was held on Tuesday noon at the home of his son, Mr. Henry Lathrope. Liberty Street, conducted by his pasor, Rev. J. U. Robins, of Trinity United Church, assisted by Rev. W. H. Spargo and Rev. W. A. Bunner. Mrs.' C. H. Dudley sang sweetly a favorite hymn of the deceased, "Meet Me There." The bearers were Rev. J. W. Bunner, Ralph Amies, N. S. Plummer, John Hellyar, T. >C. Jewell and John Lane. Notwithstanding the request of deceased that there be no flowers a number of beautiful floral tributes were contributed by sympathizing friends and relatives. The remains were taken to Castleton by motor and interred in the family plot, Revs. W. A. Bunner and J. E. Beckel officiating at the grave. Among the relatives present from a distance were: Mr. Bert Nicholson, Seabright: Mr. Jo,s. Nicholson and Mrs. Teskey, Orillia: Mr. David Nicholson, Beaverton: Mrs. Gardiner and Mr. John Prater. Toronto: Mrs. S. Finl*y and Mr. Lewis Finlay, Campbellford; Mr. and Mrs. C. Pap-pineau, Mrs. S. Vice, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kelly, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Lathrope, Castleton. He leaves to mourn his loss, his son, Henry and granddaughters, Miss Carrie of Bowmanville and Mrs. C. H. Pappineau of Oshawa.
