Mrs. Hugh Ross, a much respected old lady of Me:'ersburg, died at the home of her son, Mr. Wm. Ross, on Monday, September 3rd, 1928. Rutherford, the Misses Marion and Alice and Master James Rutherford, lately visited Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mutton. Mr. and Mrs. R. Goodrich of Colborne have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Elton Goodrich and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Goodrich. "The Poplars." Miss Emma Wright underwent a successful operation for the removal of tonsils and addenoids, at the Cobourg Hospital, on Tuesday of this IMr. and Mrs. Norman Harren and two children, Morganston. and Mr. and Mrs. S. Goodrich, Castleton, were guests of Mr..and Mrs. Clarence Goodrich on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Goodrich returned from their honeymoon trip on Thursday, the 13th, and were accorded a reception by the groom's parents; and later in the evening a number of friends of the happy couple from Sharon and Dundonald celebrated the event with great noise and afterwards refreshed themselves with large quantities of chocolate bars at Dundonald stores. An interesting birthday party took place 0n Friday evening. Sept. 14th. 1928. at the home of Mr. and Mrfc. S. Puffer, when about forty relatives of Mr. and Mrs. J. Samis assembled to do honour to her on attaining the 8fith anniversary of her birth. There were present, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The birthday cake, which was three storey, was greatly rdmired, being decorated with eighty six tiny candles, and was not only very beautiful to look at, but delicious to partake of. An address, expressive of affection and gratitude, was read by her granddaughter, Mrs. Harry McDonald, and on behalf of her relatives assembled a well-fiilled purse was presented the venerable lady hjy her great-granddaughter. Miss Dorothy Yanslyke. That Mrs. Samis, who $s in fair health, may yet enjoy years of contentment and that her "last day.s may be her best daysi," is the wish f her many friends.
