This is the time of year that the motorcar should be in good condition with regard to brakes and lights. The t.-affic officers in Ontario have ceived word from the Highway partment to check up on all moto: driving cars with bad brakes. Owing to the slippery nature of the n many accidents could be avoided by good brakes. Generally the cars driven all sumimer and in the fall need a new set of brake linings, w arc- not put on. The officers have received word to prosecute all driv of cars having faulty brakes. A v has been ordered against cars be: driven with one light. The report cards put out by the Department contain more complaints on this matter than any other fault. It is very hard to judge which side of the car the light is missing from when the car is approaching. Glaring headlights will be checked up, for on dark wet roads the glare is heavier than in the summer time. But that day is gone with the arrival of high speed motor cars and speedy highways. This force is one of the greatest forces uniting the province into one network tin crime detection and for maintenance of law and order. The happy merchant Never before in the history of the world has it been possible for a merchant in good credit to do so much business with so little capital locked up in stock. One important reason for the present prosperity is, that instead of having to buy a big stock at the beginning of each season, he is now able to buy small stocks and replenish them promptly by Long Distance. Keep your customers for miles around coming to you for whatever they need. Invent ways of inducing them to visit your store, or to order from you by Long Distance and -- they tell Us --you will not be seriously bothered by competition. Long Distance is making happy merchants in some towns. Don't overlook its great possibilities.
