November 29th, 1928, we take the following account of an automobile accident, in which Dan Davis, a grandson of Mr. Henry Hicks, a former well known resident of Colborne, was fatally injured on Sunday, Nov. 25th, 192S. Deceased's mother was formerly known as Jennie Hicks. "Daniel G. Davis, semi-pro baseball player, aged 22, died Tuesday n ing at 7 o'clock, following an accident which occurred Sunday morning abcut 10 o'clock on the Million Dollar Highway when he. through a blinding snow storm, crashed into another car near Spencerport. "The oar driven by Davis was ovei turned in a snowbank. In the encoum er his skull was fractured and he wa injured internally. "Mr. Davis was a graduate of the Brockport High School, Class '25 and entered Ann Arbor College, Michigan, in the same year. "Surviving him are his widow, Helen Higgins Davis, his daughter, Helen Higgins Davis, his daughter. Jeanne, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meyer, his grandfather. DEATHS Peoples' Societies of Peterborough Presbytery engaged in some of their preliminary debates on Tuesday evening of this week, when Colborne and Lakeport met the Warkworth and Cobourg Societies, respectively. The subject was the same in both "Resolved, that the instalment plan of buying is detrimental to the individual and to the prosperity of the country at large." At Warkworth Misses Mabel Rose and Isabel Bryce of St. Andrew's Young People's Society. Colborne, supporting the negative side of the resolution, crossed swords with Messrs. Reginald McCann and Gordon McCubbin, and for quality and presentation of argument carried the favorable decision of all the judges. Those who accompanied the fair debaters came home loud in their praises of Colborne's representatives. In St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Lake-port. Mr. P. M. Peebles and Miss Martha Coffey argued for the affirmative side of the subject, and in strength of material and delivery, and particularly in retort, far out-distanced their competitors, Mr. Cameron and Miss Runciman. Here, too. all the judge gave their verdict in favor of the home team. At some future date the winners of Lakepcrt will he victors in the contest between Port Hope and Bowmanville, ind the Coiborne champions will try their steel against those who lead in the Campbellford-Hastings end of the Mr. and Mrs. Harry Isaac wish to press their grateful appreciation and thanks to friends of Castleton, Lake-port, Fenella, and other places for the numerous useful articles received to replace the household effects lost in the Are which destroyed their heme recently.
