A meeting was held at the Manse Tuesday evening, December 11th, 1928, to consider the possibi" of such a Society. Rev. A. A. Smith was appointed chairman, , ~tts. Roberts, secretary, and Mr. i ia Bell, treasurer, to hold office temporarily until further organization is effected. The object of a Horticultural Society as outlined by Act of the Ontario Legislature, 1827, is to encourage improvement in horticulture: -- 1. "By holding meetings for discussion and for hearing lectures on subjects connected with the theory of improved horticulture; 2. "by holding exhibitions and ; vard- Ing premiums for the pioducion of vegetables, plants, flowers, fruits, trees and .shrubs; 3. "by the distribution of seeds, plants, bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees in ways calculated to create an interest in horticulture; 4. "by encouraging the improvement of home and public grounds, by the planting of trees, shrubs and ] flowers, and by otherwise promot- j ing outdoor art and public: beauty; i 6. "by offering prizes for essays on | questions relating to horticulture; 7. The choruses, drills, etc., were all splendidly executed, and showed careful training-on the part of//he teachers, who are to be congratulated. Mr. J. A. Corbyn, chairman of the School Board, ably filled the duties of chairman for the evening.
