Mrs. . E. Williams, Peterborough, was guest speaker at the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Colborne Baptist Church Mission Circle, held Tuesday evening, July 2nd, 1957. Rev. E. Williams is a former pastor of I the Colborne Church and is now pastor at Park Street Baptist Church, .Peterborough, Rev. and Mrs. Williams and their family are holidaying at Presqu'Ile Point. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mutton were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mutton, Dundonald. Mrs. Lawrence Mutton, Stephanie, Michael and David, of Shiloh, will sail from Montreal Tuesday, July 9th, on the Empress of Britain for a five weeks' visit with relatives and friends in London and other places in England. They will return to Mai ton by air. Mrs. Victor Cam.pbell returned home on Wednesday after spending a few weeks in Toronto, she was accompanied home by her two granddaughters, Misses Susan and Sally Mullin, Toronto. Mrs. Jim McGuire and family have returned after spending a few months in North Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Peeler, Orillia, were holiday guests of her sistei, Mrs! Lloyd Vanslyke and Mr. Vanslyke. Congratulations to Miss Joan Hart who received first-class honours in her first- year Psychology examinations at the University of Toronto. Mr. and. Mrs. Alfred McCracken and family, Rochester, N.Y., visited their C0U9ins, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harnden, for a few days, ELECTED PRESIDENT Mr. William Irvine, Principal of Colborne Public School, was elected president of the Urban Teacher's Association of Northumberland Inspectorate No. 1, held at Woodmere Lodge Presqu'Ile Point, on- June 17th. Fifty teachers attended the gathering, the afternoon being, devoted, to business discussions,-. The„.program concluded with an evening banquet. CASTLETON P. Sv PICNIC On Friday, June 28, the Castleton school held their annual picnic at Little Lake. Although the weatherman was none too kind, upward of one hundred and Mty journeyed to the lake for the occasion. No Paper Next Week The Colborne Express will be CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS from (noon) Saturday, July 6, to Monday, July 22nd. There will be no paper published July 11th and 18th. MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER Mrs. Stephen Keating and Mrs. Don Arkles of Cobourg were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower for *Miss Jeanne Arkles of Golborne, a bride-elect. About 30 guests attended 'a'nd she received many lovely gifts. The rooms were decorated in pink and white streamers and balloons, with a profusion of summer flowers. A dainty lunch was served. Diesels, so railwaymen say, are the most efficient form of railway motive power, yet developed. They out-perform all others by a convincing margin. AUXILIARY GARDEN PARTY Owing to the inclement weather last Saturday, June 29th, the annual Garden Party planned by the Scout and. Guide Auxiliary was held in the spacious rooms of Dr. .and Mrs. John lies' home instead of ori the lawri. It was a great financial success. ' The small tables were arranged in the living rooms. The long tea tables was attractively arranged, centred with an artistic floral piece, with silver tea services at end. Mrs. F. W. Taylor, Mrs. L. M. Smith, Mrs. Chas. Mc-Quire poured tea. The hostesses were Mrs. John lies, Mrs. Keith Redner, Mrs. Walter Williams. Members of the Auxiliary assisted in serving and other necessary work. The bake table as always proved most popular, added greatly to the afternoon's proceeds. The Lord's Day Alliance contends that "responsible citizens must recognize the importance of maintaining Sunday freedom from ordinary activities."
