SOLOMON A resident of Brighton for the past forty years, Mrs. Ira B. Solomon entered into rest in Trenton Memorial Hospital Thursday evening, November 28th, 1057, in her 81st year. She suffered a severe Coronary Thrombosis at her home early last Thursday morning and was taken to the hospital.. She was born In Canning, Nova Scotia, August 15th, 1877, Florence E. Kennedy, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Kennedy. Her early life was spent there, where she later was a telegraph operator. In April, 1901, she married Mr. Ira B. Solomon, residing at Canning until 1917 when she and her husband, with their three children, came to live in Brighton. She was a faithful member of Trlnity^St. Andrew's United Church, taking an active part in the Women's Misisonary Society and the Woman's Association. She was greatly devoted to her family and home. Surviving are her husband, two ►ns and two daughters, Gerald T., J. Edward, Frances, all of Brighton, and Elizabeth (Mrs. Douglas Kinney) of Trenton, also three grandsons, James E. Solomon, Brighton; Ronald and Edward Kinney, Trenton. Mrs. Solomon rested at the K. Snider Funeral Home, where the Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 30th, at 2.30 p.m., conducted by Rev. A. K. Edmison. The numerous beautiful floral tributes, the many who called and the large attendance at this service bore tangible evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held In a community where the most of her life had been lived. The pallbearers were Messrs. Jas. '. Brown, Edward Boes. Charles Greaves, J. Harcla Morrow. John Brown, Archie Edwards. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Brighton. COMING EVENTS The Baptist Church Sunday School Concert will be held Friday, December 20th, at 8.00 p.m. The Mothers' Auxiliary to the Pals' Club will hold a Bake Sale on Saturday, December 14th, in the vacant store in the Turpin Block. Sale starts at 10.00 a.m. o31-dl2c WILLING WORKERS BAZAAR SUCCESSFUL The annual Bazaar and Tea was held Saturday afternoon, November 30th. by the members of the Willing Workers of Old St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Junior Willing Workers, in the Sunday School Auditorium. There was a large attendance, all were welcomed at the door by the President, Mrs. C. A. Post. The decorations throughout the hall created a Christmas atmosphere. The tea table was covered with a beautiful white cloth centred with a basket of multi-coloured carnations, arranged on this table were plates of dainty ndwiches, cookies and cake. At either end the gleaming silver tea services, completed the scene, presided over by Mrs. L. M. Smith and Mrs. Frank McGlennon. The individual tea tables were also covered with white cloths centred with colorful shimmer-e bowls of original design. The Home Bake table was, as usual, ell patronized, for sale were all delicacies from angel cakes to cookies. At another table were displayed many useful beautifully sewn and knitted garments, here also a brisk business done. A variety of articles and plants were" sold from another attractively set up table. The Christmas meettfng of the Colborne Women's Institute will be held on Tuesday afternoon, December 10th, at the home of Mrs. Ray Mutton, Percy Street. Instead of the usual exchange of gifts, members are asked to bring something for a Christmas hamper and are reminded that there is still time to contribute something to the layette which will be mailed following this meeting. The Convener, Mrs. Dalton Hetherington, has as her subject "The Meaning of Christmas'* and the roll call is "The First Christmas I Can Remember". The lunch committee for this meeting consists oi the hostess, Mrs. Mutton, assisted by Mrs. Mackie and Mrs. McKim. S'NTA CLAUS PARADE The annual Santa Claus Parade will be held in Colborne Dec. 14th, at 2.30 p.m. The intent of the planning committee is to make this the largest event of its kind in the district, by engaging bands and many colourful floats. Santa will make his deubt in the parade and pass out candies to the children at the town hall after the parade. Parade routes--From the junction of Percy and Church St. West to Ontario St. South, up King St. West, down Division St. along North St., up Victoria St., down King St. East, up Elgin St., along Church St. East, down Percy St. along King St. for dispersal at the town hall, at which time a trophy will be presented to the Youth Organization with the best float. Sponsors. Retail men: programme committee, Recreation Committee: idjudicator convener, J. C.Armstrong. MRS FRED PEARSON CELEBRATES 80th BIRTHDAY s. George Peters entertained about twenty members of the immediate family on Saturday evening, November 30, when Mrs. Fred Pearson celebrated her 80th birthday. Several members of the family have birthdays in November so it was a joint celebration. During the evening progressive euchre was played with prizes being awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pearson Sr., Miss Elma Pearson and Miss Nancy Pearson. A delicious lunch was served including two beautiful birthday cakes, one for Mrs. Pearson and one for her grandson, Danny Pearson of Dundonald, who celebrated his tenth birthday on Saturday. On Sunday, December 1, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pearson, Dundonald, held open house for Mrs. Pearson Sr., when members of the family called to enjoy a cup of tea and a friendly visit. Among the many lovely gifts received by the guest of honour, was one dozen beautiful red roses. Gifts and cards were received from her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Real Estate Transfer Mr. and Mrs. G. Alex. Rutherford have bought the house on King Street East, owned by Mr. Vern Eggleton of Campbellford. Mr. Ernie Jeffery, of Colborne, District Representative of the H. C. Pedwell Real Estate Agency of Newcastle, negotiated the sale. COLBORNE ROTARY CLUB The Rotary Club met at 6.30 at the Queen's Hotel. Pres. lies in the chair. Once again there was a full attendance with two visitors. Russ Manning and Henry Carlton of Cobourg. After a pleasant meal the meeting was turned over to Vice-President Gordon Metcalf, who in the temporary absence of the President, introduced the distinguished guest, the District Governor. Brett. Brettall of the Mimico Club. The Governor is an able and fluent speaker who has travelled extensively. He gave a talk on Rotarv Work and Ideals. He was ablv thanked by President lies, who had returned. Afterwards Gov. Brett con-ponduoted a Club assembly of which the various chairmen of committees, about 15 in all. save their reports.
