Mrs. Charles Letman of Toronto, who is returning home from Halifax where she spent the winter with her daughter is the guest of Mrs. Cameron Philp for a few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. John Cochrane and family, Edville, and Mr. Lloyd Stone, Brighton, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Chatterson and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Taylor, Colborne, were in Toronto on Wednesday of last week to attend the funeral of the late Charles W. Cochrane. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Edwards of Kingston spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Troop. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rush spent Sunday with Mrs. Dorothy Lowery of Belleville. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Dale are returning to their home in Maple Grove this A very successful euchre was held at the Parish Hall, St. Francis de Sales Church on Tuesday evening, March 17th. Prize winners were as follows: Mrs. T. Haley, ladies high; Mrs. Ligett, ladies lone hand; Mrs. S. Carr, gent's high; Mr. R. Pacey, gent's lone hand. The evening closed with a delicious lunch served by the convenors. Sunday guests of Mrs. W. L. Arkles were Miss Norma Arkles, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fleming and Dawn Marie Arkles of Cobourg. About forty girls gathered at the home of) Miss Mary Vandwater, Monday evening, for a surprise shower for Miss ShWi Turner. They spent the evening guessing names of songs and then each one read a lymric they had made up about her and Mr. Gerry Clift ana they all exchanged and had different ones. Miss Karen Summers, Miss Barbara Lee, Miss Joan Williams presented her with a green Kenwood blanket, striped sheets and pillow cases and towels and Miss Sandra Turney presented her with a decorative bed doll. Miss Nadine Irvine gave a speech and saying how much we would miss her. A beautiful lunch was served by Mrs. B. Vandwater, Mrs. Secord McNair and Miss Mary Vandwater and helpers. The rest of the evening was spent autographing serviettes. A wonderful evening was spent and all girls returned home safely. Mr. and Mrs. S. Sutton and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Learmonth, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sanderson, Wellington, and attended the Christening of baby Mark Renton Sanderson, ,'n St. Andrew's Church. Sunday evening they attended the Confirmation Service in Christ Church, Belleville, when James Learmonth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Learmonth, was confirmed by the Rt. Reverend Kenneth Evans, the Lord Bishop of Ontario. Mr. Bob Turner and Mr. Rudolph Payment of Cornwall spent Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McDonald. RCAF Flight Officer and Mrs. Dale Tyler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tyler, Colborne, were home the past six days visiting. They are on their way to Halifax to sail on the Saxonia to the airbase at Grotenquin, France where he will be stationed from two to three years.
