COUNTY PRESS '( Northumberland Poultry Producers i The third annual meeting of the Northumberland Poultry Producers was held in. Agricultural Board Room ! on Monday, March 3rd, with a fairly i good attendance. Meeting was called I to order at 2 p.m. with President Ce-I cil Archer in the chair. Minutes of ' last annual meeting were read and ' adopted. Agricultural Representative, Ralph C. Banbury made a few general rfe-: marks about the gratifying progress | of other community groups and then j introduced the speaker of the after-j noon, Cecil Belyea, fieldman for On-'tario Federation of Agriculture. Mr. : Belyea pointed out that the Poultry i Producers Association were striving ' toward forward pricing and less price ! fluctuation. The Association desires I a price that will ensure profits for | efficient producers but may discourage marginal inefficient producers. Priec level must be so maintained i that it will encourage consumption [and also be compatible with world j markets. It was pointed out that to be successful the plan must be nat-; ional in aspect and no effort to ocn-trol prices will be made until all provinces have adopted the plan. It is proposed to deduct a license fee of lc per dozen at grading station and to use this money to buy surplus eggs off the market in times of peak supply and then feed them back into the trade in periods of short supply. This would tend, to maintain a fairly even price the whole year round rather than very high prices sometimes-and very low prices at other times, which are very detrimental to all stages of the egg trade. A very spirited discussion period followed Mr. Belyea's address with considerable* difference of opinion between large and small producers. Many felt they still didn't understand the plan well enough as yet to vote on it. Mr. Belyea pointed out that printed copies of the plan would soon be available and would be given widest possible distribution among all interested poultrymen. It was suggested that if possible Mr. Ken Betzner, chairman of Ontario Poultry Producers Association meet Northumberland producers to further discuss the plan sometime before the time of the vote which will likely be the latter part of March. Wesley Down conducted election of officers as follows; Chairman--Wm. Newman. Norham Vice-Chairman K. Hoecke. Camp-' bellford. Secretary--Chas. Hobb's. Morgans-ton •Directors--J. H. Kaiser. Colborne, I. Flanders. Colborne 3. P. Moore. Morganston, B. Smale. Baltimore. H. Welton',' Castleton., Mr. Hoecke then took the chair in absence of Mr. Newman-and after a brief discussion the meeting adjourned at 4 p.m. on motion of P. Moore and Cecil Archer.
