Moore quits CLERK RESIGNS POST APPOINT LEARMONTH Colborne's clerk-treasurer G.T. (George) Moore has resigned from his post effective June 1. Al Learmonth, now employed at the Canadian Forces Station, Cobourg, has been tentatively appointed successor. Mr. Moore gave his resignation to village council over a month ago, the Colborne Chronicle learned this week. Mr. Learmonth was appointed at a "special" meeting called for the day following Mr. Moore's letter and at a salary of $6,000 per year. ROSENEATH FAIR AUG. 28,29 The Roseneath Agricultural Fair will be held August 28-29 this year. In a letter to council, dated February 9, Mr. Moore said that the work as clerk-treasurer "is gradually getting beyond my capabilities. Therefore, I would ask you to give every consideration to getting a qualified replacement. "On my part," said Mr. Moore, "I would be happy to give the applicant every assistance in the personalized part of the operation, and retire when he or she could take over." Mrs. Joan Harnden, Colborne, known by many here for her lovely miniature dry flower arrangements, won the second prize in the class "Flowers go to Press" at the Spring Flower and Garden Show in Toronto last week. A letter from Mrs. Mason of the Garden Club of Toronto stated that Mrs. Harnden's lovely miniature (shown above) caused a great deal of comment and gave the club an idea for next year's show. Whiterock report to be ready soon into The results of the Qi Park investigation Whiterock Estates is expected to be given to the Ontario legislature at any Whiterock, under the slogan "Own a Piece of Canada" bought several town hall. Mr. Moore has been clerk sitice the early f960's. Mr. Learmonth is a longtime resident of the village, and is active in Boy Scouts. Mrs. Learmonth is a teacher at Colborne public school. The new clerk's position at the Cobourg armed forces station would be terminating soon, as the depot will be closing. COLBORNE COUNCIL At the regular meeting of Colborne Council held March 9, John Aitken of the Brooklin Bulletin Publishing Company addressed council re the placing of an illuminating sign somewhere near the centre of the village. The sign would be installed at no cost to the taxpayers and would detail all public events on a changeable board, including recreation facilities, church notices, and public events. Revenue is produced by selling advertising to local "Okay, so where do they get chocolate milk ? Grade seven pupils from Colborne Public School were given an outdoor education lesson Tuesday, when they visited the dairy farm of Mackenzie Haig, Colborne, and saw the latest in up to date milking. Taken on a tour of the farm, pupils were given a demonstration of the machinery and shown the process in operation. They were shown how milking machines are connected to a glass tube running around the barn and to the milk house. Using three or four cows at one time the milk is pumped into the glass tube to a tank in the milk house where it is kept cool until collection. Lee, addressed Council, and stated that it was the village of Colborne's turn to be host to the United Counties mutual aid association and requested the use of a room in the municipal building and the usual grant for refresh-He also invited members of the Council to attend the meeting. Permission was granted and a grant of $50 to be given for refreshments. DIAMOND TRIANGLE It ( D e r t Colborne Public School Grade 7 visits Mackenzie Haig's dairy farm McLaughlin and Joe Blackwood attended a meeting of the association, held in Port Hope, on Saturday, March 7. The aims of this association, generally, are to keep Port Hope, Cobourg, township of Haldimand, and the Village of Colborne as an area in the proposed regional government. PLANNING Communication from G.P. Adamson with plans for a subdivision on Durham St. South, asking for information. This matter was referred to the planning board.
