Page 8 COLBORNE CHRONICLE, June 4, 1970 FEDERATED Wl OF ONTARIO The Annual Meeting of East Northumberland District of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario was held Thursday May 21, Smith-field United Church with York Road Branch as hostesses. District President, Mrs. James Bird, extended a welcome to those present, which included Provincial Board Director, Mrs. Clarence Mann of Peterborough, and the Home Economist of Northumberland and Durham Counties, Miss Karen Murdoch of Bowmanville. Treasurer's report read by Mrs. Fisher showed District finances in good shape. The President in her address thanked the hostesses and her own branch for corsage in Institute colours. She reported visiting five branches and hoped to visit the other six in the coming year. Mrs. Bird spoke of 4-H Club achievement Days and her presentation of small gifts from the District to girls obtaining County of Provincial Honorurs. She made a plea for volunteer workers at the local pre-Kindergarten Retarded Children's School. Roll Call (a suggestion for a project for East Northumberland District) was varied and given by each branch. The suggestion of a workshop on Women's Institute Procedures was accepted as plans for this are already underway. Ratification of District Directors was conducted SHILOH by Mrs. Mann. Following installation each Director presented her branch's contribution of Pennies of Friendship, used to help keeD the Associated Countrywomen of . the World functioning. The District Public relations Officer, chairman of the Committee for planning of the Workshop on Procedure Mrs. C.H. Dallison, mentioned correspondence with the Toronto Office. She explained that it would be open to all members of the Women's Institute and as soon as a date was set all branches would be notified. A letter from the Area President, Mrs. Barber of Belleville, was read with October 28 and 29 for the Area Convention in Belleville. Mrs. A. Bell, invited the 1971 District Annual Meeting to be held in Wooler, the 70th anniversary of the WI in East Northumberland and suggested an invitation be extended to the Provincial Presidnet. M i M ; Provincial Director Mrs. Mann brought greetings from the Provincial President, and told us of the new "Family and Consumer Studies" available at MacDonald Institute of Guelph University. She mentioned the theme of the Area Convention was to be "Go Forward, Look Upward, in the 70's", and asked that a branch in E. Northumberland be responsible for the registration of delegates on the first morning, and that each district provide a display under their ' banner at the convention. n n congratulated the District for giving small gifts to 4-H club girls achieving County and Provincial Honours Mrs. Mann asked members to send in suggestions to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario in 1972. The WI is a great cause, "and can go on being a great cause." In an entertainment break Mrs. M. Bulman and Mrs. C.H. Dallison of Community Branch, played 2 piano duets "Two Guitars" and "The Golden Wedding". Mrs. Ian Heales, White School branch was chairman of a reports panel of District Convenors. Agriculture & Canadian Industries, Mrs. Blair Heeney; Citizenship & Education, Mrs. W.J. Blakely; Home Economics & Health, Mrs. Charles Nelson; Historical Research & Current Events, Mrs. W.J. Honey. Coloured slides showing work and life of sister Institutes in Canada were enjoyed. A service of memorial was conducted by Mrs. D. Chapman, Community branch who read a meditation and poem. Each branch who had lost a member or members placed a fresh tulip in a vase naming the departed member. A moment of silence was held, and a short prayer by Mrs. Chapman. Mrs. Alex Bell of Wooler sang four songs introducing them with words of peace and love of children, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. C.H. Dallison. Miss Karen Murdoch gave a combined report of Home Economics and Girl's Work and extended greeting from Miss Helen McKercher, Director, Toronto; and told of her experiences as Home Economist saying she has never regretted entering this field. She reported on the two 4-H Projects, "Featuring Fruit" and a "Placefor Everything". The new project "Being Well Dressed and Well Groomed". Mrs. Mann conducted the election and installations of officers for the 1970 - 1971 term. Immediate Past President, Mrs. M. Bulman; President, Mrs. J. Carr, Historical Research & Current Events, Mrs. M. Bulman; Resolutions, Mrs. T.M. Gresham; Public Relations Officer, Mrs. C.H. Dallison; Curator, Mrs. W.A. Goodfellow, : District Delegate, Mrs. John Whitehouse, Alternate, Mrs. G. Honey; Auditors, Mrs. G. McCulloch and Mrs. D. Walker. - Following the Installations ceremony a brief entertainment was provided by Colborne branch in the form of a humerous skit which was much enjoyed by all. Miss Wendy Mutton, Peterboro, was home for the weekend. Mr. Harold Mutton returned to Trenton Memorial Hospital, Friday for treatment. Mr. John Ewart, Toronto, spent the weekend at his Shiloh home; Mr. Curtis Begg, Toronto, spent Saturday with him. Mr. Gerald Lovett and friends, Belleville, called on Miss Nellie and Mr. Hugh Mutton, Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrance Mutton spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Graham Mutton, Brighton. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ferguson visited Mrs. Gerald Quinn in Cobourg Hospital on Sunday. Mr. Lyn Ventress was a Sunday supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mutton. Bradley Chapman, Edville, spent Saturday with his grandmother, Mrs. Harold Mutton.
