All accounts due the estate must be settled on or before the 10th of August. --The Cobourg band has been engaged to play at Ontario Beach for one solid week, commencing Friday. June 30. The management wrote for the Piccolo Band, but as that organ-zation is out of existence, Bandmaster Scrogg closed the engagement for the Citizens Band. On Monday last an additional mail service was put on between Colborne and Toronto. Y., and are on their lioneymoon trip. They had a boat, tent, fishing tackle, etc., and started down the lake shore to camp and fish. This is a novel, but practical manner in which to pass their wedding trip. --While passing Port Hope on Thursday of last week Captain Baker of the steamer Hamilton, sighted what he believed to be the wreck of the dredge Sir Wilfrid, which foundered off Port Hope three years ago in a storm. Bellamy. --The funeral service of the late James Gleason will be held at his fathers house, Mr. Louis Gleason's, on Sunday the 9th day of July, 1905, at the hour of 2 p. m. --Master Allan Snetsinger left on Friday for Deseronto. He expects to spend the summer with his grand father. Capt. Jas. Dougherty, or board the steamer Reliance. --On Thursday last, the Ladies Aid of the Presbyterian church, Lakeport, held a very successful social and sale on the lawn of Mr. Geo. Carruthers The proceeds amounted to something over $80. W. Mallet, of Lindsay, editor of the Watchman-Warder, took his own life on Sunday morning in the press-room of the office. He was found shot through the heart. A Boer rifle, which Col. Sam Huges bad presented to Mr. Mallet on the Colonel's return from South Africa, was fount! by the side of the dead man with an empty shell in the breech. Mr. Mallet had been troubled with insomnia for weeks, and loss of sleep aud weak nerves had rendered him unaccountable for his actions. -- In the death of L. C. Bailey which occurred on Tuesday last, another of the oldest citizens of this place has passed away. Foi a number of years Mr. Bailey carried on a successful soap business, but owing to failing health was compelled to re-from the business. In his iger days Mr. Bailey took an active interest in everything that pertained to the welfare of the village He was a man of exemplary habits and of a bright and cheerful dis position. He was a member of the Methodist Church and for many, years was connected with the official board of the church. The deceased was in the 76th year of h age and leaves a family of three so: and one daughter. The funeral will take place at two o'clock this, Thursday, afternoon to Salem cemetery. Scougale Bros. The Sir Wilfrid, which is woi th $50,000 was a new dredge, and foHndered while being towed down the lake to commence work in the St. Lawrence. ■Efforts to locate the wreck last summer and the preceding year proved unavailing. --The re-opening service of the Salem Methodist church passed off very successfully on Sundaj Monday last. On Sunday Rev. J. J. Rae, of Picton, delivered two very interesting sermons which were highly appreciated by the large congre gations pre. ent. On Monday a very enjoyable social was held on tho church lawn. The proceeds from two days services amounted to $800 which will cover the entire cost of repairing the church and erecting the new shed. --On Saturday last a young man named W. Smylie hired a horse and rig from W. Burleigh's livery to drive to Grafton, agreeing to return the rig me evening. He failed to re turn and Mr. Burleigh got out a warrant for his arrest, and after some inquiries, found that the animal had strayed into a farmers yard neaa Baltimore, who had taken it to Cobourg in the hope of finding the owner. County constable Smith accompanied by Chief Ruse, of Cobourg took the matter up with the result that Smylie was taken in charge, brought before a magistrate and committed for trial. H. M. ROBLIN.
