Secretary-treasurer Mrs. W. Mcllveen read the minutes and financial report which were approved. Roll call, "Why did you join the W.I.?" brought forth varied reasons. Everyone agreed there was always a friendly atmosphere at the W.I. Seven members placed orders for Institute crests. It was also decided to order Institute spoons to be kept in reserve as gifts. Pennies for friendship were collected by Mrs. H. McDonald. The nominating committee report of Mrs. S. Leuty, Mrs. R. Clark and Mrs. W. Mcllveen was read by Mrs.Clark. Officers for 1974-75 were elected as follows: President, Mrs. J. Bass; first vice-president, Mrs. S. Miller; second vice-president, Mrs. G. Tocher; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. W. Mcllveen; district director, Mrs. K. Young; alternate, Mrs. H. McDonald. Convenors: Agriculture and Canadian industries, Mrs. M. Hart; citizenship and world affairs, Mrs. F. Sabo; education and cultural activities, Mrs. R. Clark; family and consumer affairs, Mrs. A.Rob-bins; resolutions, Mrs. S. Miller; public relations, Mrs. G. Tocher; Tweeds-muir history curator, Mrs. J. Bass; auditors, Mrs. G. Hutley Jr. and Mrs. D. Hen. The telephone committee consits of Mrs. L. LaGrave, Mrs.G. McMaster, Mrs. R. Pattimore, Mrs. H. McDonald, Mrs. R. Pennington and Mrs. J. Poole. meetings in July and Aug- A "Dutch clock" auction was held, arranged by Mrs. E. Taft. As the hand of the home made clock travelled around different sums of money the bidder had to call out when it arrived at the amount they were willing to pay. Candied pecans, home made bread, fudge, large decorated cakes and many house-plants were sold. Officers were installed Lunch was served by by Mrs. S. East Northumberland THISDEER.S Pine Ridge team places second leap was g0,f ladies The East Northumberland Secondary School's mathematics team has placed second among schools in the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham; the squad was topped only by Port Hope High School. Paul Rogers, a member of the squad, placed fourth in zone 68. It covers Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa, Peterborough, Whitby, Cobourg, Lindsay, Port Hope, Bow-manville, Lakefield, Port Perry and Norwood. Paul Rogers and Richard Luymes placed in the District Honor Roll and Paul also placed on the provincial honor roll, as one of the top hundred students in the province. The contest is run each year by the University of Waterloo and is for high school students up to and including Grade 11. The competition is in the form of a multiple choice questions. Five answers are given for each problem. Penalties are awarded for wrong answers to discourage guessing. Participating from ENSS were W. F. Aksamit, D. E. Dingle, M. N. Goddard, D. C.Hadwen, J. Hoekstra, J. J. Huizinga, M. Humphries, D. L. Kynnersley, R. J. Luymes, J. McCreath, J. R. Noble, M B. O'Leary, G. A. Pitcher, P. Rheber-gen, P. D. Rogers, S. A. Simmons, D. M. Smith, M. L. Taylor, C.M.J. Thompson, F. A. Thrower and W.E. Williams. A team score consisted of the combined marks of the top five members of the team. top half East Northumberland Secondary School placed in the top half of each event as over 50 schools competed in the York Memorial Collegiate Institute Invitational relays last week. Area athletes performing extremely well were Dan Griffith, Wayne Williams, Scot Sherwin, Paul Sobie, Dave Peckham, Wayne Kennington, Bill Dorland, Bruce Patterson, Ben Davis, Gail Frost, Winnie Joustra, Patsy Patrick, Joan Gagnon, Theresa Lafrance, Susie Warner, Carol Nyhoff, Susan Fox, Val Rumsol, Anne O'Sul-livan and Michelle Humphries. its last! A deer leapt out in front of a car driven by Murray Bruce Roblin, R. R. 4, Brighton, who was unable to stop at the sudden move and hit the animal. The deer died on impact. Damage to the Roblin vehicle was estimated at $200. Constable Bill Rands of Brighton OPP investigated- Women members of the Pine Ridge Golf Club teed off their 1974 season yesterday, with all lady golfers welcomed between the 9 and 9:30 a.m. starting time. A slate of officers was elected with Helen Pigden accepting the office of games captain. It was decided to continue with a nine hole section for those players not wanting to participate in the 18-hole group. Marg Oates served refreshments.
