Page 8 The Colborne Citizen Nov. 27, 1974 Around the Village with Sharie Raby ANGLICAN TEA AND BAZAAR Miss Jean Kernaghan was home for the weekend and was serving at the bazaar and tea at the Anglican church Saturday. There was a very good turnout for this. The weather was very kind. The hall was lovely with its Christmas dress. Christmas cake was served as well as the usual sandwiches and fancies. Enid Rogers is the President of the ladies group. Her helpers for the tea and bazaar were; Mrs. Cora Reid on the door and Mrs. O. Sweet. Mrs. M. Morewood on the novelty table. Mrs. E. Stevens, Mrs. Metcalfe, and Jessie Bugg on the bake table. Mrs. Corbyn, Mrs. Alexander, and Mrs. E. Cliffe on the fancy goods table. Pouring tea were Mrs. L. Ware of Grafton, Miss Maude Connors, Mrs. B. Kernaghan, and Mrs. Cracknell who has just returned from hospital. Mrs. Knott was on the touch and buy table arid Mrs. Bertha Myles was in charge of the kitchen. The winner of the doll was Gloria Carrod of Castleton. It was drawn by Mrs. Grace Corby n. The new carpet in the halls and stairways looked very nice. New drapes in the hall also blended in very nicely with the woodwork. Margaret Makie is to be congratulated on a happy birthday when she was also the winner of the cake from the Birthday Club over the local Radio Station. Many more of them Margaret. Mrs. Swithenbank has been visiting her daughter in Barrie. Mrs. Lillian Mutton has returned from the hospital. Hope all the tests come out well. If election day will just be balmy we will all go out and vote??? The participants in the Saturday Santa Claus parade are getting their floats and costumes in readiness. That is another day we would like the sun to shine. Mr. C. Reynolds spent a couple of days in Streetsville recently. A miscellaneous shower was held at the O'Neil home in honour of bride elect Bonnie Teal. This was co-hosted by Mrs. Flo Dale, Ruthie Dale, and Mrs. N. O'Neil. Bonnie thanked all who came for the lovely gifts she received. Our sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. David Black who lost his life driving a tractor. The time is overdue for some sort of tests to be taken before tractors can be operated. Sympathy is extended to Gladys Pomery on the death of her husband. On Dec. 2 at 8 o'clock, all mothers of the Guiders, Brownies, Scouts, and Cubs are urged to come out to the meeting and auction. Two kindergarten classes visited the post office yesterday. The Rotary Club of Colborne Ladies night dinner was held Monday night at Dalewood Golf and Country Club. There was a social hour prior to the banquet. Dancing followed. Mrs. Isobel Gummow took "Best Exhibit" in the Christmas Horticultural Show and won the silver flower bowl donated by Harnden's. CHRISTMAS MAILING It's less than a month to Christmas. Have you got your supply of the six-cent stamps? I have had my first Christmas card a week now. They say the early cards get looked at more than the last to arrive. The staff at the local office will be the same regulars but the part-time will have their hours increased starting the 9th. Those hours are all handed down so must be dished out here and there. WATCHMEN PERFORM At the Prospect Missionary Church Sunday morning, a packed church enjoyed several selections by the Watchmen quartette. This group include in their numbers a great deal of songs about the Second Coming of Christ. The blending of their voices was a delight. Especially the resonant bass. They sang favorites like The Eastern Gate. There's a Lighthouse, and More About Jesus. They used electronic equipment but it was not overdone. The pianist showed off what a lovely piano this church has. At the evening service the Watchmen VOTE Alf Dove FOR REEVE IF TRANSPORTATION NEEDED ON 2 DEC, PHONE 355-3329 put on a sacred concert again to a full church.
