Page C2 THE COBOURG STAR, FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 1975 Congregation enjoys Edward Family singers Local champions Sunday morning and Sunday evening, April 13, at the Eddystone Baptist Church, the Edwards Family, which are a singing group from Wooler, Ontario, were invited to entertain at the services, by Mrs. McKenzie of the Eddystone Church. The, Edwards Family consists of 7 - 3 girls, 2 boys, and a mother and father, and they were all fantastic, according to comments made by the congregation. Both church services, morning and evening, were full of people from Eddystone and from surrounding areas. The Edwards Family entertained for one hour in the morning after Rev. Robinson welcomed them. They sang modern hymns, which were enjoyed -especially by the youths. The singers also sang some old revival hymns which .were also enjoyed by most. Before the evening service started, there was a pot-luck supper for all the people wishing to attend. The idea of the pot-luck supper was so that all the people would have a chance to meet the Edwards family. After the supper,, they started rolling again, with many modern hymns and old revival hymns. Then they had a request time, and many reque§ts were made by the congregation. The service ended with a sing-along, and then the Benediction.. Rev. Robinson thanked the Edwards Family on behalf of everyone there, for taking part in the services, and asked everyone to stay The Grafton Hor- Grafton, Monday evening, cnair, and she welcomed for coffee and donuts. 50th anniversary for Grafton Horticulturists ticultural celebrated their APnl 12- everyone. 50th anniversary at the The meeting started with Mrs. Young and Mrs. Canon Nind Hall in Mrs- Chalovich in the Chalovich introduced two of the people who were in the Grafton Horticultural fifty years ago, and they are Mrs. Rutherford and Mrs. Hare. They were both presented with lovely corsages. Flashes from CPS Mrs. Bangs, a church member, said that the children, as well as the adults, thoroughly enjoyed the Edwards Family. By Kevin Palmer Two weeks ago, room 10 got a new girl in the class named Kathy. We are studying about Japanese religion, Buddhism. On Friday we only had sixteen people in our class because of the storm. We got out at quarter past 2 in the afternoon. Last week room 10 went to the sugar bush. First we went to see the trees. There were three blocks of trees. Then we went to the sugar house. There, we saw them boil sap. They burn tires to make the fire hot. Before we left, we tried the suryp they made. Learning experiences in the kindergarten were enriched last week with a visit to the Sugar Bush at the Bos Farm in Vernonville. We saw how the sap travels from the trees, through plastic pipes into large tanks. When we were there, we saw a tractor come and pump the sap into a tank on the wagon, and take it to the Sugar Shack where it would be boiled down into maple syrup. We were given a taste beore we left. It was really good! Later in the week, after a classroom follow-up, we had a treat by making our own pancakes and pouring maple syrup on the top. Last Wednesday, the students in rooms 7,10, and 5, went to the sugar bush. Each class was taken to the sugar house where the sap was boiled down. We were also taken into the forest. Afterwards, we all had a taste of the true maple syrup. This week our gymnastic club, has been practising for competition at Clark School on April 24. Our class finished a math test on fractions. Jamie Parks and Wendy Crockett tied for 1st place with a score of 37 out of 40. In art, we are doing posters for education week, April 21 to 25. I hope you will all come to see our posters and to hear some of our students' speeches. Last week the grade 8 class started writing their speeches for the speaking contest on April 24. We're also making posters for education week. This week we are hearing and re-hearing the speeches of the students that wish to be in the public speaking contest. They are all fairly well done. We hope that the winner of the contest for our school will come from our room. My Dog, Pal Pal was a beagle and had long ears. Pal was a good dog. We had him for thirteen years. He had a heart attack and had a heart problem from then on. We used to play with him a lot but now he is dead and gone. He died Sunday, March 16, 1975. We cried a lot that night and we missed him in the morning. The morning after he died our big hound was looking for him and so was our bobtail cat. Pal never bothered cats and he would always let the cats curl up in front of him on our mat by the front door. Pal used to take our hound in the woods to hunt. They always brought a rabbit or two home. My uncle saw him and the hound chase a big buck across his backyard one morning. Pal was a good hunter and we always took him hunting when we went. Now that Pal is dead, our hound has no one with whom to hunt. The cats have no one to curl up on the mat with and we have no one like Pal with which to play. We loved Pal very much. a demonstration on flower arranging, and Mrs. Underwood thanked her. Mrs. H. Harnden read to the visitors what the Grafton Horticultural has achieved in the last fifty years.
