March 30, 1966 NEWS OF INTEREST TO WOMEN OH, THOSE EASTER BONNETS! With Easter just around the corner, women once again let fashion go to their heads. Just a sample of the latest crop of Easter bonnets are these two millinery masterpieces. Left is a pillbox hat in gold and silver brocade topped with osprey feathers, and right is a top-heavy creation of white cornflowers with turn-up brim. /t Special School lunches can be a problem - ihey must be, healthy, varied, and appetizing. The health aspect creates no real problem - I am sure you all know Canada's Food Rules and try to follow them as best you can. Variety needs a little ingenuity now and then. The following tarts may help out - the Taffy tarts could qualify for butter tarts although th-re is no butter in them; they are delicious and not difficult to make. The Coconut-Cheese Tarts are a little out of the ordinary. Do try these for a lunch-box surprise. Taffy Tarts 1 egg 1 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts preferred) salt vanilla jam Liixx, tart shells with pastry; place about 1/2 teaspoonful of jam in the bottom of each (this is optional); beat the egg, add the rest of the ingredients, and beat well again. Fill the tart shells 2/3 full. Bake in a hot oven (400') for about five minutes, then lower the heatto 350'and bake for 1/2 an hour longer. This amount makes 12 large tarts. Coconut-Cheese Tarts 2 eggs 1/4 cup sugar salt 1/2 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup cottage cheese ' 1/2 cup shredded coconut Beat the eggs in the top of a double boiler; add the sugar, salt, and milk. Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat, add vanilla, and fold in the cheese and coconut. Pour into unbaked tart shells. Bake at 375'-400' for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is cooked. SOUTH CRAMAHE NEWS Mr. & Mrs. Harold Carter have returned to their home in High River, Alberta (Box 203), after spending the past several weeks with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harrv Carter, at Colborne. Harold and Leona returned to Ontario for the burial service of her mother, (Mrs. Phyllis Inglis, formerly of Brighton, Ont.) The interment was in Salem cemetery. While in the district, they visited Mr. & Mrs. Frank McDonald of Salem, and several other friends in the surrounding area. Dr. and Mrs. F. R. Pember have returned home following a month's vacation in the southern United States._ Curling continued Club's first major bonspiel in their home rink. Decorations, created by convenor Mrs. Margaret Lance, featured travel posters,balloons, streamers and the focal point was a "banana tree" display of tropical fruits. Members topped off their costumes with wide brimmed sombreros for the event. The Trenton 6RD rink, skipped by Laura Miller also appeared in sombreros, decorated with spring flowers. Rinks participating in the bonspiel included: when you take off your Easter Bonnet you'll greet Spring at your best with your hair personally styled at RAY'S MEN! Ladies of the Brighton Club catered to a dinner in the evening at the Club, with two sittings to accommodate the numbers of lady curlers. President, Mrs. Arlo Strandon, reported a highly successful event. "We are well pleased with the response and the number of entries, " she said. Mrs. Mary Hulin was bonspiel Chairman and in charge of the Draw Committee. Mrs. Marjorie Christie and Mrs. Hulin were the welcoming convenors. Mrs. Claire Williams was in charge of catering.
