The Board of Stewards of Eden United Church held a meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman on Monday evening. Several from the neighbourhood attended the cup and saucer shower on Saturday at the home of Mrs. Douglas Mutton in honour of the bride-to-ibe, Miss Nancy Pearson. Last Tuesday evening will lie a night to be remembered for some in our neighbourhood. The hills of old Northumberland were a bit treacherous but all wer home safe and sound by morning. 4-H CLUB MEETING The first meeting of the Community Charmers Homemaking Club was held on Saturday, February 13th, at the home of Mrs Lyle Chatten. The meeting was opened with "O Canada" and the 4-H Pledge. The Treasurer's report of the last unit was given. It was decided that a collection of 10 cents per person would be taken at each meeting. The election of officers then took place as follows: President, Bonnie McCullough; Treasurer, Arlis Chatten; Press Reporter, Connie Chatten. i It was moved by Arlis Chatten and seconded by Dorothy Anne Chatten that we have a floating Secretary. It was decided that the next meeting would be held on Saturday, February 20th. 1965, at the home of Mrs. Chatten. We then discussed "requirements of club members, record books, working procedures, dish washing, abbreviations, and measurements". There had to be a cleanout j at the property line and another; at the foot of the stack in cellar. He suggested that the cleanout at the property line should be brought to the surface of the ground so that if the pipe became blocked it would not be necessary to dig down to the pipe. Pipe to be used inside the house and above the cellar floor would have to ibe ca'st iron or copper, but pipe installed under the cellar floor could be transite. He stated that many people, whose plumbing had been in for some years, were being told that it would all have to be changed to comply with the present day regulations. This was not true unless changes were being made in the plumbing setup. Mr. Cameron told council that anyone wanting advice regarding the problem were to feel free to call on him. The Reeve and Council thanked Mr. Cameron for coming down and for the information he had given them. Requests for grants were received from the following: The Northumberland & Durham Music Festival, The Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance. On motion of Councillors Dance and O'Neill it was agreed to grant $25.00 to each of the above organizations. On motion of Councillors Blyth and Ferguson it was agreed to send $10.00 as membership fee to the Northumberland & Durham Firefighters Association. Correspondence: From Dept. of Tourism and Information asking for the name of chairman of the Centennial Committee. From Proctor and Redfearn. this being a copy of letter sent by them to McCoy Construction regarding their contract with the Villageof Colborne. From Dept. of Public Welfare enclosing a cheque for $423.63 for month of December. On motion of Councilors Ferguson and Blyth the above correspondence was filed. The question of purchasing a new Canadian flag was discussed and it was agreed on motion of Councillors O'Neill and Blyth that council should purchase one.
