Eight COLBORNE CHRONICLE Thursday, April 8th, 1965 BRIGHTON BREEZES by Bette In just a COUPLE OF WEEKS the sewer trunk line will be completed and Brighton residents won't have-to wonder which detour route would prove to be the line of least resistenee. Most seem to agree that it's a good job . ,-. well done. "BYE" to the JAMES HAMILL family! Mr. Hamill, superintendent of Presqu'ile Provincial Park, and his family, will be leaving near the 17th for Powasan where Mr. Hamill will assume his new-duties as Head Ranger. Glad to report MR. HARCLA MORROW is 'home and feeling better' after being a patient in Kingston Hospital. BRIGHTON CURLING CLUB is sponsoring a Bonspiel in Colborne. The Colborne Curling Club are joining the Brighton Club for the Bonspiel which started last Thursday night and continued throughout Sunday of last week. This week the Bonspiel wil lcontinue Thursday and Friday nights, the 8th and 9ith, and all day Sunday the 11th of April. MR. GORDON WILLIAMS and son, KEN, returned home following a visit in Rochester, New York. Ken reported the 'arrival of tiie first pair of WHISTLING SWANS on Saturday morning. As I remember, the final 'count' last year was 37. Wonder how many we'll have this year? It would be interesting too, to know just how many cars'(and occupants) drive to Presqu'ile to see the Swans. Last year there wa sa steady procession for several days and we didn't do badly traffic-wise on Sunday. SAD and GLAD! Certainly the AL CORBYS make for mixed emotions! GLAD Mrs. Corby home again after being a patient in Trenton Memorial Hospital but; SAD that Mr. Corby is now a patient having broken his hip in a fall at home last Sunday. Welcome home to MR. and MRS. ARTHUR CHATTEN following their vacation of a month in sunny Florida. Sorry to learn MR. HAROLD STONE is a patient in Trenton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stone broke his hip Friday morning while at work at Bonisteel's Service Station. The United Counties Community Concert Association are winding up a most successful season. Tenor CHARLES K. L. DAVIS appeared in Cobourg Tuesday evening concluding the concerts there until October. PARSONS and POOLE wil lbe in Belleville the evening of April 21st, the Association's grand finale. Bogged under with SPRING CLEANING? I sure am! Have been reading all the "How To' articles in attempt to fathom ar easy "out" but so far, anyway, the only easy out I've been able to find is the "keep plodding' method. I am scared though . . scared that I'm going to awaken some morning (before I'm finished) and find a.beautiful warm day dawning. If that happens I'm licked because I'll doubtless play hookey. You'll excuse me, v you, if I leave you for this week and resume the race I'm running between house cleaning and thi weather? A place where you can find all the new dances being promoted by the new generation is the CROW'S NEST in Belleville. The Crow's Nest is a reflection of the HAWK'S NEST in Toronto which is also a TEENAGER NIGHT CLUB. Each week teenagers flock to Belleville to enjoy the music of the visiting bands. The Crow's Nest was once the CLUB COMMODORE in Belleville but now has been concerted into a fun spot for teenagers. It is a teenage dress-up affair and usually membership cards are necessary for admittance. On April 21st RONNIE HAWKINS will be appearing at the new TEENAGE NIGHT CLUB. DEBBIE GAGNE, LARRY HARDY, JOAN BROWN and myself manage to make the scene last week-end. Friday night there will be a dance sponsored by the GIRL'S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION at E.N.S.S. The evening will start off with a demonstration of our school's sports activities. Beautiful it was last week-end and I noticed MICKI GAGNE was enjoying the fresh air' by taking a walk over the hills of Northumberland. Also out for that breath of Spring was MR. C. THOMPSON and son. In fact, mstitutional. Were you? CURLING Alice E. Haynes The big interest right now is a bonspiel between Brighton and Colborne Curling Clubs. Sixteen rinks from Brighton and eight from Colborne are taking part in this long drawn-out affair which began last Thursday, continued Sunday all day, recommenced Wednesday night of this week, Thursday night, Friday night, all day Saturday, and finishes up on Sunday. Results of this bonspiel will be published in next week's Chronicle. A team of junior curlers from Colborne recently went to Peterborough for a bonspiel to compete with teams from Peterborough Bancroft, Lindsay, Cobourg' and Oakwood. Our young curlers made an excellent showing at this bonspiel, losing to Peterborough by a score of 10-9. The team was: David Palmer, skip; Gord McDonald, vice; Donald May, lead: Bob Hall, second. Nice work boys, you did well at your first bonspiel away from home and we know that next year you will return, covered with glory. Wednesday night.
