Thursday May 29, 1969 Colborne Chronicle NEWS OF SALEM Mrs. Frank McDonald, Little Lake Rd-, Salem, who celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary Wed. June 4, 1969. Mr-, Mrs. McDonald were guests of honour at a family party at the home of their nephew, Mr, Mrs- Angus McDonald and boys, Cres-tview Cres., Brighton, Saturday afternoon. Guests were received from 2 to 5 p.m- They included relatives from Liverpool, New York, Toronto, St-Catherines, Warkworth, Lakeport, Smithfield, Grafton a'Tl Brighton. Mr Russell Rowe was present and presented the bride and groom of fifty years with an appropriate plaque- From Ottawa, came a telegram of congratulations from Prime Minister P.E- Trudeau and a letter from George Hees. Mr. Broughton of Brighton was on hand to record this important event with pictures- The happy couple were the recipients of gifts of money from the family, a lovely walnut and gold clock from Salem United Church Women, and several small gifts from individual friends-Mr. John Hutchings has successfully completed hfs first year at Queens University. Next fall he will comrp""" h[s second year in Electrical Engineering. Miss Mary Bellamy has been successful in comple ting her third year at Toronto University- Mary majored in Physical and Occupational Therapy Cou- Mr. Bill Everden Jr. received his certificate from OB-C at Belleville, Sat. of last week. His parents Mr., Mrs. Thus- Everden, Sr. attended the graduation excercises, held in the Chapel, at the Albert College, Belleville Saturday evening, May 31, 69. Later, all enjoyed the reception and dance in the main auditorium-Progressive Euchre at Union: Mr, Mrs. Brooks Union Neighborhood, were hosts for a special progressive euchre party on May 28. Seven tables were played: Prizes went to:-Ladies high, Mrs. Thelma Spence; Ladies low, Mrs-L. Scott; Ladies lone hand Mrs- William Streeter; Mens high, Mrs. May Huff Mens low, Charles Redd-om, Jr.; Mens lone hands, Mrs- William Carr: Nine members of Salem U.C-W. thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Brighton U.C-W. -'Crafts evening on Tuesday of last week-Among the crafts displayed were spinning wool on an old, fashioned spinning wheel, quilting, rug hooking, tatting, weaving, flo wer making from ribbon and paper, and many oth ers. It was a most pleasurable evening. Local friends will be interested to know that the Brighton U-C.W- President is our own 'Helen Bradd' (Mrs. James Mcintosh) Mr, Mrs- Donald Broom-field, Cobourg and Mr. Fred Irwin, Brighton visited Mr, Mrs. Frank McDonald Sunday afternoon- Salem U-C.W. met at the S-S- hall, Wed. It was decided to cancel plans for a Strawberry Social in favour of an invitation to cater to the Marbon picnic.
