Biennial Legion Convention Teen Club TakesSalute At Rally The six day Ontario Provincial Convention in Cornwall, opened with a grand parade of jnore than 1,000 veterans./ A service of Remembrance was held at the cenotaph-Taking the salute was former Lieut. Governor and Chief Justice of Ontario, Hon. Kellar Mackay. Premier John Robarts, long time Legion member, officially opened the convention in the Capitol Theatre Sunday, speaking of his experiences while in the service. Delegates from Cobourg Grafton, Brighton and Trenton travelled to Cornwall to attend including, Mr- Vern BickeU, Zone Commander, and his wife HONOUR GRADUATE representing Colborne. All districts in Ontario were represented. Returning from the convention the following delegates visited Colborne to inspect the newly decorated hall. Horse Struck A horse was struck by a train at the Silver Barn Road on June 2, 9:05 p.m. The four-year-old palomino gelding owned by Robert Bird of Port Hope was destroyed by Vic Baldini -- the horse had a broken back. At the Youth meeting held Monday, June 2, an election of an executive was held- Billie Ball was elected Chairman and Wayne Morrison, Ron Ca-Iberry, Bruce Barnes, Lea Mills, Sharon McLaughlin and Lee Cammack, board members. Chris Chisholm was elected Treasurer and Lorraine Chapman, sec. Eighteen young people attended- They were granted permission from the Recreation Committee to use the Art room in the basement of the Town hall for their centre- They discussed the possibility of acquiring a record player and pop machine, and plans to decollate the room and chjirge of admission. The next meeting will be June 4th and then June 9 at 7.30 p.m. Bike Rodeo The Bicycle Rodeo at the Colborne Cramahe Arena, will start at 9 am. June 7. Colborne children complete with safety checked bikes will attend at 1030 and surrounding schools at 9-00. Even free cokes will be given to contestants, children who have not entered the Rodeo will not be able,to enter the arena to watch. Contestants will be divided into age groups 1st 2nd and 3rd winners will be awarded. Rotary Draw The four tickets drawn for Colborne Rotary Club 130 draw belonged to Gladys Miller, Cliff Denny, Ray Beal and Rose Nelson Nonagenarian Charles H. Beatty, legionnaire Grafton, took the salute, Sunday, at the Cenotaph in Grafton. It was Zone P2 rally for the Ladies' Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion. The parade was led by color party representing Legion Auxiliaries from Cobourg, Brighton, Campbellford, Colborne, Trenton and Grafton. Comrade Florence Pegg placed the wreath at the Cenotaph. Comrade Pegg is provincial chairman Ladies' Auxiliary, Ontario Provincial command. Comrade Dorothy Spiers heads Grafton Auxiliary Command. Some of the personnel included presidents from Brighton (Jean Kemp), Cobourg (Gwen Baker); Campbellford (Lillian Shaw); Trenton (Blandine Martin); Port Hope (Beryl Lat-imore); Colborne (Lillian Baitley); Warkworth (Helen Nelson); Frankford (Agnes Rankin). Bowdley was not represented. Comrade Beatty, 91, is t'e senior first world war veteran in this district. Visit The Old Chapel On Sunday June 1, Mrs. F- Bilcox and Greg. Mrs. Fred Kernaghan and Mrs Ed Kernaghan attended the Annual Memorial Service at the Old White Chapel near Picton to honor their great great grand parents, John and Matilda Black, who were married there June 6, 1819- The Chapel, built in 1809 is maintained as a Historical Site and the original furnishings are still in use It was the first Methodist Church in Prince Edward County, and has been a place of worship for the longest period of any other place of Methodist origin in Ontario- A s; hammer, shovel and lawnmowoi, valued at $70 were stolen from a Trent Valley cottage owned by John Bowman of Toronto, between May 25 and June 1.
