If possible they surpassed themselves June 14 when approximately 700 people were served the juicy beef and 1,600 attended the dance. The president of the Camp- bellford Legion was the lucky winner of the camper trailer. Visitors come many miles to attend these barbecues among them this Saturday were Hon George Hees, M.P and wife and Hon. Russell Rowe MP and wife Auction Time In Colborne ANNIVERSARY Mr and Mrs. Albert V. Light celebrated 60 years of marriage at a reception at the Golden Plough Lodge, Cobcurg Thursday, June 12. Mrs. Light has been a resident at the Lodge for the past few months. Mr Light 81. lives in Colborne in the house he built himself twenty years ago. Married in England in 1900 Mr. Light joined the police force in Dorset County. After four years Mr. and Mrs. Light came to Canada where he joined the police force here and later became Chief of Police in Camp bellford. Serving in the army, Mr. Light was guard of a prisoner of war camp. In 1950, on retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Light resided in Colborne and enjoyed a special place in the community. In September Mr. Light plans to join Mrs. Light at the Lodge. Many relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Light celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary. Telegrams were received from Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, John Ro-barts P.M of Ontario, The Queen of England, the brides sister at Salisbury, England and Mrs. Lumsden, Edmonton, Alta. (gran daughter) Letters of congratulations came from, Hon. Russell C Honey QC. MP., Hon. George Hees MP., and Colborne Municipal Council. Frisnds art-need from St. Catherines, Bramalea. Thome; North Bay. Kingston: Cobourg and Colborne. Family attending were Mrs. Maude Weston. Kingston. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Light. Thome; Mr. and Mrs. Albert V. Light Jr., Bramalea; Mrs. J D D Lumsden (grandau-ghter); A large number of an-r. versary cards were sent to Mr and Mrs. Light. "If you pull together instead of pulling against each other, everything will mostly go right' is Mr. Light's message to stay happily married 60 years. Prospective walkers are hoping for good weather, Saturday June 21, when the walk will proceed from Victoria Park at 9 a.m. All walkers are asked to begin registration at the Park at 8.00 a.m. All pledge sheets must be handed in to the officials who will give out contestant numbers. The walkers will carry their numbers on the 22 mile course taking them along Highway 2, the Shelter Valley Rd., and back down the Castleton Rd. Rotarians will be manning 11 check points along the route and will keep track of the walkers. Refreshments will be available at the checkpoints. The Emergency Measures Organiz- ation (EMO) will provide cars with 2 way radio sets to give assistance and" medical attention to the walkers. Rotary will also provide cars to transport those who fall by the wayside. Walkers are urged to wear sturdy walking shoes -- Siay on the left side of the road -- Use only cars marked EMO or Colborne Rotary. The EMO will set up a communications central in Victoria Park and spectators will he informed of the progress of the walkers. If weather is unsuitable, the Walkathon will be postponed to Saturday, June 28th. RECREATION SWIMMING The swimmers at the Recreation classes at Little Lake thi<: year will not be using the build ing owned by the Orange Lodge as they have for the past ten years for swimming facilities. - The Rotaiy and Recreation Committee's request for the building this year was turned down at the regular Orange Lodge meeting.
