A. M. Ballantyne Fellowship Baptist Church The 7 Cs Christmas always means an adventure in giving. Some give more, some give less; some expect more, some expect less, but with the thought of giving also comes the expectancy of receiving. We can receive much or we can receive litttle, regardless of how much is given. This may sound like double-talk to many, but as you look at Christmas in the light of the Scriptures, you will see that the statement I made is entirely correct. God so loved the world that HE GAVE HIS Son, so that as many as RECEIVED Him might have power to become the sons of God. That's what Christmas is about - - giving and receiving. God has, through Jesus Christ, given us many things, and among the many are the following seven C's. 1. Comfort. The prophet Isaiah said: "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith your God." In 1 Thess. chapter 4, Paul speaks of the' rapture which is the hope of the Christian, and he completes the account with the words: "Wherefore, comfort one another with these words." In Luke 8, Jesus said to the woman with the issue of blood, "Daughter be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole." And then we have the words of Jesus in Matt. 11: 28-30, "Come unto me all ye . Castleton Pentecostal. A Friendly v'elcorne - that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." 2. Covering. Psa. 91:4, "He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust." God covers our sin with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ which was shed at Calvary, and is the fulfilment of Psa. 32:1, "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered." 3. Companionship. Isa 41:10, "Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed: for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my ,righteousness." In Matt. 14, when the disciples were in that storm-tossed boat, they saw Jesus walking on the water, but thought it was a spirit until He said, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not fraid." This is companionship, for He has said to the believer, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." 4. Confidence. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. The Apostle John writes: "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hear-eth us . . . . The steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord, therefore, we have confidence that the Lord will guide us. 5. Continuance. Jesus tells us to continue in His love. Paul exhorts us to continue in the grace of God. We are to continue in the faith; to continue in prayer; and to continue in brotherly love, and Jesus said, "Lo, I am with you alway, even to the end of the world." 6. Commission. He said. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy GVost: teaching them to ob-s.rve all things whatsoever I have commanded you . . ." Jesus gave the Christian Church this commission and it has never been revoked. 7. Committal. Once the astronauts were on their way to .the moon, there was no turning back; they must go all the way. They were committed. Jesus did this for every one reading this article. He went all the way. He committed His life to the cross of Calvary. It's a sad thought, but the only committal that takes place in most lives occurs at the cemetery where the body is committed to the ground. It's too late then to commit vour life to Jesus Christ for His use. These are the 7 C's- - comfort, covering, companionship confidence, continuance, commission, and committal. Do any of them fit into your life this Christmas? God is willing to give them to you, are you willing to receive them? Sixteen Local Scenes Included In New "Rural Ontario" Book Northumberland and Durham rural scenes rate highly in a new book published on "Rural Ontario" by the University of Toronto Press. Sixteen of the 90 photographs reproduced on the large pages come from Northumberland and . Durham county - - houses, farms, roads churches and lakefront. The book covers several areas of southern Ontario, but seems to emphasize the old United Empire Loyalist eastern Ontario. The authors are Verschoyle Benson Blake and Ralph Greenhill. Mr. Blake is an historian with \he historical branch of the public records and archives department in Toronto, and a founding member of the Architectural Conser- vancy of Ontario. Mr. Green-hill is the photographer. The book's goal is to record building styles now disappearing with growth, "a sampling of what has pleased us in travelling over country roads."
