January 14th, 19B0 LAKEPORT Service in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Sunday at 3 p.m. Service in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Sunday at 9.45 a.m. Sunday School at 11 a.m. The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies' Aid of St. Paul' Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday evening, January 5, at the home of Mrs. George Peebles, and owing to roads there were not as many The President, Mrs. D. Peebles, opened the meeting reading a prayer for the new year and scripture reading, Psalm 51 verses 1-15, followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Minutes of the last meeting and several thank-you notes were read by Mrs. M. Cherry, secretary, and a wonderful financial report for the year was read by the treasurer, Mrs. B. Moore. Sunshine bags were distributed for the coming year and each day the Sun Shines drop a penny in. It is amazing the amount of pennies that are handed in. At the conclusion of the business discussion, Mrs. Sayers was appointed chairman for the election of officers. Mrs. D. RIMMER Phone 349 Your Local Jeweller Colborne Mrs. Peebles extended sincere thanks to the members for honouring her as President for another year, and the ladies of this group find it a pleasure working with her. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction after which a tasty lunch was served and a social hour spent. The ladies will meet again at Mrs. George Peeble's home on Tuesday evening, February 2. All thanked Mrs. Peebles for her kind hospitality. She enjoys having the meetings at her home, especially during winter months, and we all reciate her kindness. Miss Merle Flanders returned on Sunday to Doctors' Training Institute in Brantford, after three weeks vacation with her parents, . Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Flanders and friends in Cobourg. Mr. Charles Harnden, Cobourg, visited at the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Peebles on Monday. Ladies please keep in mind the Community Club meeting at Mrs. Goldie Cox's, Colborne on Wednesday evening, January 20. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Roddy of Kingston spent the week end at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Roddy. Mr. Jim McKenzie, Toronto, spent the week end at his home Salem Sunday School Christmas Concert The pupils of Salem United Church Sunday School presented their Annual Christmas Con-on Thursday evening, December 17th. in the Church Auditorium. With Mrs. Bellamy at the piano the boys and girls filled the platform to open the concert with three beautiful Christmas Carols. Master Johnny Smith gave the opening recitation. Misses Mary and Kathryn Bellamy played a piano duet. The Beginners and Primary pupils under the direction of their teacher Mrs. Archie Bellamy and Miss Patricia Peters performed a candle-lighting pan-tomine with song. Piano solos were given by Laurie Ann Fenaughty and Judy Barnes. Little Jill Fenaughty gave a Christmas recitation. A Christmas dialogue was presented by the Junior Class. The Senior boys and girls presented a Christmas tableaux with Miss Gail Whaley at the piano. A recition "The Night before Christmas" was given by Karen Bellamy. A medley of Christmas songs was played on stringed irg * ments by Messers. Knapp, John Davis and Smith. Twelve of the Junior Senior girls under the direction of their teachers, Mrs. John Fenaughty and Mrs. Jack Smith performed a beautiful "Star and Cross" drill. A final chorus with all the pupils once again on the platform was sung before "Old Santa" made his appearance. The brightly lighted Christmas tree became the centre of attention as Santa distributed gifts and bags of candy to all' the children. Sunday School The Superintendant and staff of the Sunday School are most grateful to all who helped to make this concert a success. A special thank you to Mrs. E. A. Ashbridge who looked after the detals of the program, to the men who brought the tree, to the girls who made the candy, to "Old Santa", and to Mr. Alf. Smith for the effective lighting system.
