The rooms looked very good after being newly decorated, credit for this goes to Comrade Max Creighton. Minutes of the last regular and executive meetings were passed. New business was discussed. A canteen committee was formed, we expect to get things in this department under way in the near future. We also formed a membership committee. We are out for all the new members we can get, so veterans come along and join the Canadian Legion Branch 580, Grafton. This ambitious branch plan to hold a banquet in reniem brance of the battle of Vimy oi April the ninth at the Graftoi Hotel. This is being catered to by our President, Joe Konch. So comrades let's have a good tun out, this being our first banquel Our bingo tickets are going very good, anyone wanting to play, contact any member of the branch. A special vo*c oi thanks was extended to Mr. James Blacklock, Grafton, for the donation of chairs. Also to Comrade Jack Kernaghan for the donation of fifty gallons of fuel oil. All Legion branches have a Service Bureau Officer. This is a great help to veterans, as the officer has all the latest changes in the pension act, war veterans allowances act, etc. The service bureau, though Pro- vincial and Dominion - Command, has been the means of helping many veterans, widows of veterans and their dependents. If we can be of any assistance to you please get in touch with any officer of the branch. The meeting closed with the singing of the Queen. Over 200 letters, describing pine buildings and other uses of white pine in early Canadian architecture, were received by the White Pine Historical Committee. The Barnum House was selected from these. Built in 1814. the building stands on the site of the Bar-num's first residence which was used as a military headquarters during the War of 1812.
