After a clinic is held, the blood is rushed to the main depot in Toronto in refrigerated trucks. Here the blood is checked carefully, tested and typed, and is made ready to be sent to the hospitals in Ontario.; These deliveries of blood to the hospital blood banks must take^ place as soon as possible after! the blood has been given at a' clinic, as it can only be used for a maximum of 21 days. | The hospital will have on hand enough blood to cover their weekly needs, but more blood is readily available from the main depot in case of emergency. Serum Albumin, used the treatment of shock and in BLOOD CLINIC On April 14 a Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic is to be held in Colborne. Red Cross technicians, nurses and workers will be setting up the mobile clinic at Colborne U n i t e d Church and will be collecting blood between 2.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. in the afternoon and 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. in the evening. The quota of donors has been set at 150 and members of the Colborne Branch of The Canadian Red Cross Society are now actively recuiting donors for this clinic. The Cobourg and Trenton Hospitals use numerous pints of blood a year which will be supplied to them by the Red Cross. There are many communities that are too small to hold clinic, and yet their hospitals too must be kept supplied with fresh blood. Therefore it is essential that each community where a clinic is being held meet their quota, so that an adequate supply of blood can supplied to^ these hospitals. some diseases of the kidney, is made from this unused blood, and immune globulin, used for the modification or in the prevention of measles is another of ! the many by-products, and through the Ontario Hospital Commission will be supplied free of charge to the patients in the hospitals who need them. In many communities, blood was only available at a cost of $25 a pint or replacing the used pint by finding two donors. Although the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service has been supplying most of Canada with free blood, the greater part of Ontario was not serviced. However, with the inauguration of the Ontario Hospital Insurance, Red Cross has agreed to supply | every hospital in Ontario with free blood by this Dominion iDay.
