Jones Mrs. Charlie Virgus and girls spent Friday and Saturday with her sisters, Mrs. Harry Jones and Mrs. Alan Jones. Master Lynn Jones spent part of his holidays with his cousin. Alvin Jones of Castleton and Alvin returned home with him for the rest of the week. Mrs. Sykala, Toronto, spent part of the week with Mr. Sykala. Miss Sharon Jones of Castleton spent several days with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones and Charlie. Mr. Clarence Andrus had his two grandsons of Peterborough with him during the holidays. Miss Eleanor Fitchett, Cobourg, visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex McColl during the holidays. NOTICE! Haldimand Council Meetings The Township of Haldimand Council met on April 7th and 12th, with all members present. By-law No. 125 passed June 7th, 1950, to provide for ,a Recreation Commission was amended to include seven members instead of six and Messers. A. Crawford, L. Curtis, F. Down, I. Flanders, F. Harnden, N. Masterson and G. Pearse were named as the members of the 1960 Commission. By-law No. 263 to provide for regular road expenditure o f $76,000 in 1960 and By-law No. 264 to convey certain lands in Lot No. 26, Concession 1, to Willmot Taylor and D. C. Johnston were given three readings and passed. Road accounts for $7,256.62 and general accounts for $2,-037.80 were presented and passed. A letter from the Grafton W.I., relative to some kitchen utensils presently stored in Township Hall, was read and filed. After considering tenders for Motor Grader from J. D. Adams & Co, W. L. Many of the young mothers went home determined to remember to put many "things" well out of reach of their youngsters! An Easter Quiz by Bernice Brown concluded this interesting programme. A bountiful lunch served by the hostess and members of the West group brought another friendly gathering to a close. Anne Hutchings will be hostess for the May meeting. Salem Recreation Mrs. Goldie Cox of Colborne as hostess for the April meet-ig of the Salem Ladies' Recreation Club. Nineteen members and five visitors were in attend- Roll call was answered by a quiz on well-known TV personalities. The President, Gertrude Smith, thanked the hostess for opening her home for the meeting. She also expressed her appreciation to all who helped to make the progressive euchre, which was held at the home of Bernice Brown, such a successful venture. (At this time, the Secretary - treasurer presented Bernice with a cup and saucer in appreciation of her hospitality.) Secretary and Treasurers' reports were read by Audrey Davis and approved. Sunshine reports were given from both East and West groups by Dora Barnes and Mildred Knapp, respectively, j During the business discus-m it was decided to present a gift from the club to Evelyn Whaley, whose home had been destroyed by fire. Fern Whaley and Bernice Brown were in charge of the programme. The "home-made Easter Bonnet" parade was judged by Mar-Franklin of Colborne and Betty Haight of Cobourg. dred Knapp and Anne Hutchings were the winners. Mildred's hat resembled a miniature flower garden with a tiny watering can perched on top. Anne's was a stylish "bun-basket" interwoven with yellow and mauve satin ribbon, with flowers covering the top. Both were very artistic.
