Large Crowd Witnesses Fireworks Display The Victoria Day celebrations sponsored by the Colborne Recreation Committee were held on Monday, May 23. Due to the rain on the weekend the Band and Baton demonstrations had to be held on the main street, as Memorial Park was too wet to parade on. Those participating in the demonstrations were the Colborne Recreation Trumpet Band and Baton Corps, Colborne Junior Baton Corps, Warkworth Majorettes and Grafton Majorettes. The program started at 7.30 p.m. with all participating in God Save The Queen and O Canada. Three numbers by the band followed the opening. The Junior Band played the "Away We Go March," and "You're In The Army Now," with the Junior Baton Corps going through their routine. The Senior Band and Baton Corps followed with a number of Marches, Twirling Routines and Concert Formations. Wayne Ring played a trumpet solo, followed by a trumpet duet played by G. McDonald and T. Graydon. Following the duet the bands, baton corps and majorettes formed together and marched to Memorial Park where Gail Peebles performed a Fire Baton routine, and Arliss McLaughlin and Karen VanMeeuwen doing a Lighted Baton routine. The Warkworth Majorettes were under the direction Gail Peebles and the Grafton Majorettes were under the direction of Karen VanMeeuwen. The draws were then held with Mr. Foy of Colborne, winning the basket of groceries, donated by Cooks, B. Fox and Posts Grocery Stores. Mr. O. Harnden was the winner of a case of tomatoes, donated by T. McKenzie. Mrs. George Moore won the case of apple juice donated by Seaway Foods. Mr. George Baitley won the hamper of apples donated by Colbright Orchards, and Mr. John Bord-of Toronto won a basket of groceries donated by Alf Dove. The Fireworks Display followed the draw, which was enjoyed immensely by the large crowd. The Colborne Band and Baton Corps will make their next appearance at the Oddfellows Church Parade, on Sunday, May 29, in Brighton. Dies At Wheel Of Car James Cecil Clitheroe, Grafton, died at the wheel of his car when it left a county road at Grafton and crashed into a tree near the Roman Catholic Church. Cobourg coroner, Dr. J Leeson was called to the scene of the accident and pronounced the driver dead. The accident was investigated by OPP Con .stable Claude Courville. No inquest will be held. Fountain Committee The Committee appointed to consider restoration of the Fountain and Foot Paths in Victoria Park, met in the Council Chambers on May 17. Considerable made with another meeting called for June 7., to deside on design and to take some definite action. Suggestions as to design for fountain or a rock and floral water display, or other improvements in the Park, from interested citizens would welcome. Such suggestions may be left at this office or mailed to Post Office Box The anxieties of the Students and the Teachers of Colborne High School were brought to a climax on Wednesday, May 18, when they arose to find the day just as they had ordered it. Finally the five year rain record had been broken. At approximately 8.30, khaki clad Cadets and girls looking immaculate in their standard black and white uniforms, ent-•ed the proud Academy known to its inmates as "dear old C.H.S." The morning was spent shining brass, cleaning guns 1 preparing for the Tea which was to be held for the VIP's of the Inspection. Finally 1.15 rolled around, was with shining faces that reflected proud hearts that No. 987 Colborne High School Cadet Corps marched down the main street to the stirring of the Cadet Band, led by four pretty majorettes clad i the matching black and hite. When the Corps arrived at Memorial Pariv the Inspecting Party led by the Inspecting Officer, Captain Troop, and the Marking Officer, Lieutenant Furness of Kingston, surveyed them, then watched the Cadets and the Band take part in various demonstrations. Once this was over, the tired troop marched back to the Academy for ice-cold chocolate milk and a place to rest their weary bones. The twenty-five officers and guests were present at a Tea, catered to by the Grade 12, girls. We consider this to be an exceedingly successful Inspection Day, in spite of the aching feet and sunburns of 125 fatigued, but relieved students. Hold Recital In Warkworth Dance pupils of Mr. K.
